Very sorry to see you leaving us. Your car was indeed one of my favorites and the exact model/color I originally looked for when I bought mine.

Good luck to you and your family. Please stop by for comments when you get a chance. You'll be missed.

Frog,

you were one of the first people responding to my newbee chatter. Much appreciated.

One consolation: Mid Life is just a stage, you'll grow over it and be back in an XK8.

Live well!

Noooo! Nooooooooo! You'll have to at least assure us that your XKR has gone to a good home, and hopefully a fellow/new member on here. Life moves on indeed, but that thing is an inspiration. Best of luck with the new rides, and enjoy that vacation with the missus!

Frog,
Sorry, you'll not be adding to the discussion of our cars any longer, but frankly, I don't get it. You claimed to have "tweaked to perfection" your car, but for what reason to become a garage queen? Not for driving and enjoying it? Unless you're buying a car for collector status and future appreciation, why on earth wouldn't you be driving a car you have prepared to enjoy on an everyday basis. I bought mine almost 4 years ago so that I could drive it everyday. Nearly 70,000 miles later (128,000 total), I maintain it to look and drive as almost new, I enjoy driving it as my daily driver, and I can't even imagine locking it in the garage as if in a museum. These cars are inexpensive classics that allow one to drive everyday because of that. I wish you well in the future but I don't think you'll enjoy looking at or driving the VW the same was as you did your Jag. Good luck.

Au revoir, as they say. It is too bad that you cannot just keep the car as a sort of hobby since it obviously gives you pleasure. But then again just having it sit in a garage is no fun either.

Perhaps we'll see you back again in the not too distant future.

Best of luck!

Doug

Thanks once again for all your comments. I know I will be sad to see the car go, but it does sort of leave the door open now to get an Aston Martin maybe in a couple of years

Well I may be joining you. After putting new tires on this spring I have put less than 800 miles on it. truth be told with one kid in college and another starting next year it's hard for me to tie up money in a garage Queen.

A question for you guys that are putting on so few miles. Is it because this is a third or extra car in the family or is it that your normal daily driving distances are so small?

I am provided a company car which I get to choose (every five years) there are no restrictions on use and my company pays for gas insurance and repairs so its pretty easy to use that car first.

Same here really: I have my own business and drive a van round most of the time. The Jaguar was supposed to be for romantic weekends away with the wife, but we never seem to get the opportunity these days.

My daily driver:

With a total of 5000 kilometres in 3 years (average here is 20K a year) My Jag is a toy and only use it once a week for a short run (70 kilometres return) and the occasional long run. My every day Nissan Patrol averages 25,000 K's per year.
Make an interesting thread to see just why people own a Jag. Yes it is a 3rd car but other Jags have been no different. I just like them! Cheap to buy, different, look good, smell nice, drive well....yep I just like Jags.

Sorry to see you go.

However, I just don't understand why people hang on to the "Jags are unreliable" meme. The 2003+ cars are among the most reliable. I've taken mine on a couple of 6000+ mile cross-country trips and currently commute weekly between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. There have been no problems beyond normal maintenance and wear-and-tear.

Yes, they are more reliable than the Jags of olde. But my wife's 2006 XK8 still requires more maintenance and attention from me than my 1999 Ram pickup and 2005 S-Type combined....

AHA! So we have arrived at the root of the problem. Grab your girl and go...more often...and solve two problems at once.
