Tire flat spotting?

Unhappy Tire flat spotting?

Wondering if anyone has experienced this. Severe shaking for the first few miles and then lessening as you keep driving although never completely stopping. Got the car from a snowbirder, only driven in summer and parked in garage the rest of the year. Had the tires force balanced and shaved, four wheel alignment and no change. They are Conti DFW's and only have 3K on them, hate to replace them already. I'm thinking permanent flat spots from sitting so long.

Don't know about permanent but they can sure hang around for some time. A little higher pressure and warmer weather should help but not much warm pavement for a few months north of Florida.

All performance and low profile tires will flat spot. Some are worse than others but they all do it. Also, the wider the tire, the more prevalent the issue becomes. Parking warm tires on a cool surface exacerbates the issue. Hopefully your tires were 'shaved' when warm, otherwise they're probably ruined. Consider that if they were still flat-spotted and shaved. Now the artificial low spots caused the normal/remaining concentricity to be considered high spots and shaved away. Once the tire warms and returns to what would have been concentric what was high during shaving is now low and the artificial low is now high.


Tires should never be shaved, except street tires being used for racing (to reduce tread squirm/ slip angle.) All performance/low profile tires should only be balanced when warm. I won't balance mine without having driven 15+ miles on the expressway beforehand.

Mine does the same thing. Feels almost like a flat in the cold weather until a few miles. After that it is fine. Im using Falken 453

Every High Performance Tire that I have had on any car has had Flat Spotting.

Most even out after a few miles. Others (especially after winter storage) could take 10 of more miles.

After being flat for a long time, some tires will never even out.

Age and Tread Formulation seem to have a significant effect.

All Season Tires seem to be less prone to Flat Spotting,

I'm running Hankook H426's and she's parked on the ground all winter long last year it was outside with just a cover on it. I didn't have any flat spot problem when taking it out in the spring. This winter I've moved it inside and our X-Type is outside, it sits inside garage during warm weather and isn't used unless I'm doing something on the XK8.
