Default Which tires for 20"?

I found at a very good price a set of 20" (8.5x20 and 10x20) with bmw fitment for my 00 XKR cabrio. It will be made 20mm spacer for rear and 25mm for the front. The spacer will convert the jaguar in bmw fitment. We tested the rear wheel with 275/30-20 and it looked a bit odd because it had a huge gap in the fenders (at least 4 cm to the borders line of the fender).

Front (OE size for 18" is 245/45-18):
Jaguar size for 20" is 255/35-20 which is +0.9cm in diameter than OE 18" size.
My option 1 for 20" is 245/35-20 which is +0.2cm in diameter than OE 18" size.
My option 2 for 20" is 245/40-20 which is +2.6cm in diameter than OE 18" size.

Rear (OE size for 18" is 255/45-18):
Jaguar size for 20" is 285/30-20 which is -0.8cm in diameter than OE 18" size.
Tested size for 20" is 275/30-20 which is -1.4cm in diameter than OE 18" size.
My option 1 for 20" is 275/35-20 which is +1.4cm in diameter than OE 18" size.
My option 2 for 20" is 285/35-20 which is +2.1cm in diameter than OE 18" size.

Rear VS Front:
Jaguar size for 18" is +0.9cm in the rear.
Jaguar size for 20" is -0.7cm in the rear.
My option1 for 20" is +2.1cm in the rear, but +1.4cm with 255/35-20 and -0.4cm with 245/40-20.
My option2 for 20" is +0.3cm in the rear, but +2.1cm with 255/35-20.

As a combo my best option it seems the 245/40-20 for the front and 275/35 for the rear, but will the front fender accept a extra 2.6cm in tire diameter? The car has the suspension standard and i don't plan to lower it.

I was playing with a tire size calculator just to compare the differences in tire sizes. Apparently the calculator I'm using is a little different than the one you're using. But the numbers are pretty close. Remember, even though the new tire may be 2.1cm bigger in diameter than the stock tire, only half of that, or 1.05cm is between the axle and the fender. The other half is between the axle and the ground. So you're only talking about a 1cm difference. I'm sure you don't have anything to worry about. The aftermarket springs bring the axle about 4cm closer to the wheel well, and I've never heard of anyone having a problem with them. I'm not sure how far the tire is away from the wheel well liner when the axle hits the bump stops, but I'm sure Jaguar didn't design it to such close tolerances that 1cm would make a difference.

By the way... go with wider tires! If you've got 20 inch rims, put some 325/30-20's on the back. I don't like the look of those giant rims with the really tall tires, but I like the look of 19 or 20 inch rims with really wide tires. The new Corvette and Porsche 911 both use 325/30-19's. Wide tires are cool.

While searching in this forum i found this pic. It is funny that it shows the gap that i'm talking in the rear fender with the recommended 285/30-20, and the wheel that i'm about to buy has a design pretty close of the wheels in the car next to the Jag.

I don't know if this car is lowered, but the fronts 255/35-20 looks good to me and in the rear it really needs a taller tire to fill that gap.

Thanks for giving such a valid point. We need to divide by 2 the difference in diameter to realize how much close will be to the fender border. As for wider tires, i like the look of the tire a bit stretched instead of a square look. About the higher profile, it is to maintain a reasonable confort in bad roads and prevent wheel bends or cracks.

I think that i will keep the front option in 245/40-20 but change in the rears to 285/35-20. It is a bit more taller, it protects more the wheel for possible scratches on the edges and is the option with less diameter difference front vs rear.

While searching for tires in tirerack, it gave me this number of combinations for the sizes:
1 - F245/40-20 & R285/35-20
1 - F255/35-20 & R285/35-20
14 - F255/35-20 & 285/30-20 (Jaguar recommended sizes)
15 - F245/40-20 & R275/35-20
21 - F255/35-20 & R275/35-20
The more combos available, the lower the price that i can get. Now i'm towards more to F255/35-20 & R275/35-20, but will it be any issue with 3% (according tirerack, 0.6"=2.2%) of diameter difference between front and rear? ABS, TC,...?

BTW, i'm using the Miata.net tire size calculator.

Any updates on the tire fitment issue? I also like the style you're going for Tiago (mesh Y spoke with a wide lip).
The Rocket Motorsports Jaguar also has that look:

I'd post the pic, but I need a Moderator to give me access...
ADR makes an M-Classic style, sold on eBay, but it's 5x120. I also like the MRR GT-1, but it costs more.
Anyone currently running 5x120's?
Thanks

It ended up with the 255/35-20 and 275/35-20 for a 8.5" and 10" rims. The look is perfect. I didn't had the chance to take pics because the car is at the dealer, first due to overheating because of a bad water termostat, and now for being in safe mode for a unknow reason. But i will post pics when i receive it again.

I'd love to see the pics when you get them.
I have a Black 97 XK8 convertible I'm doing something similar with to get close to the look of the Rocketsports Racing XK-RS concept car.

What was the brand and model of the wheels you put on? You also mentioned needing a 20mm spacer in the rear and 25mm in the front. What was the original BMW wheel offset - and the new total offset if you used the spacers? What kind of lug nuts did you use? Any special balancing needed?

At the moment, I'm deciding between the ADR M Classic in chrome (front 8.5x20 15mm offset, 1 1/4" lip, rear 9.5x20 15mm offset, 2" lip), and either the Stern ST-7 or ST-8 (front 8.5x20 13mm offset, 2" lip, rear 9.5x20 15mm offset, 3" lip). All are 5x120 lug and the company is telling me they fit the Jag fine due to the allowable tolerance in aftermarket manufacturing. They did mention I might want to get center rings to help with the center bore size.
ADR:
http://www.maxspeedperformance.com/xcart/home.php?cat=18
ST-7 (click on chrome option)
http://www.maxspeedperformance.com/xcart/home.php?cat=53
ST-8 (click on chrome option)
http://www.maxspeedperformance.com/xcart/home.php?cat=54

I like how the center / lug area of the ADR looks as it's a smooth transition from the spokes, but the lip is the shortest (an inch less in the rear compared to the Stern. The Stern has a really nice deep lip, but then the lug area seems chopped up with the center ring look. The ST-7 also has only 7 spokes so it's not exactly what I want, but I do like the fact that it doesn't have the fake screws. The same company owns both ADR and Stern so I'm guessing quality is similar with both.
Votes? Thoughts? Opinions?

After wheels and tires, we need to figure out the best way to lower our cars. The Rocketsports car switched to coil-over high-performance Penske shocks, but I don't know if something else was done to lower it. Any ideas out there?
Thanks

Thumbs up

The wheels look great Tiago. The rear dish is really nice and deep and you managed to do it without bringing the wheel outside the top of the fender arch (which I do not like).
I made my decision and had my new wheels and tires put on yesterday (10/25/10).

For the wheels I selected Chrome 20" ADR M-Classic 15mm offset, 8.5" wide for all four wheels. They are called 5x120 lug, but per the manufacturer the allowable tolerance when they are made is wide enough that it works for our Jags. I'll let everyone know if I have issues, or they fall off at some point.

Tires are GoodYear Eagle GT P245/35-20 all the way around as well.

I chose similar sizes all the way around because the wheels and tires were both much cheaper in those sizes and I plan on rotating them for longer life. In a perfect world, with a bigger budget, I would have chosen a wheel that has the look of the ADR, with a deep dish like yours in the back for a staggered setup. The similar looking Stern was no longer available in the correct size, but it would have had a 2" lip in the for a 8.5" wheel with 13mm offset (3" for a 9.5" wheel with 15mm offset), as opposed to the ADR which has only 1.25" lip on the 8.5" and 2" on the 9.5"). It also seemed like both 9.5"s with those offsets in that style might push the wheel outside the fender.

I'll post pics when I'm given access by the forum admin...

Here are some pics: with the stock and ADR wheels to see the comparison; and with both new ADR's.

Wow, it looks great. The wheels looks almost like the BBS CH's. You just need to buy the jaguar rear arch kit for 20" to complete the look.
