Smile Today's cryptic question.

With reference to the excellent parts catalogue offered by our sponsors S N G Barratt - can anyone suggest why the Air Cleaner Mounting Bracket (item : 2) is different in cars fitted with, or without, a Premium Sound System.
Today's cryptic question.-small-air-filter-diagram.jpeg
My own view is that Jaguar Engineers, working long into the night, discovered that the extended bass response of the premium sound system was causing harmonic resonances in the plastic air filter housing at exactly 3647 rpm, and therefore increased the thickness of the metal by 8 microns to avoid this potentially dangerous situation.
Any other guesses ?

You've got way too much time on your hands.

Graham - admittedly I probably do need to get out more but .......... in a rare moment of dry weather yesterday, I decided to check things under the bonnet - my air filter housing seemed a bit loose so I wanted to look at a diagram to see whether there were any bolts and/or fastenings under the housing as well as the single "instrumount" #11 on top. That's how I noticed the odd "sound system" difference.

Not surprisingly, the same information is in the Jaguar EPC:

As you're so keen on trawling the parts catalogue, I'm expecting an exhaustive list from you of all parts unique to the Premium Sound System!

There is only one part number for the supercharged engines. Does that mean the whine from the eaton counteracts the harmonic distortion and a modified part is therefore not needed?

I feel we should contact Jaguar and inquire about this rather than speculate.

I'd love to hear the response of the rep when he hears this question.

Or .............. and I realise he probably has more important things to do ............... maybe William (at S N G Barrett) could dig out both parts and see if there is actually any difference between them. I can understand why the supercharged bracket may be different but Premium Sound / Non-Premium Sound
I just realised - I am a REALLY sad person. I have wasted 30 minutes of my life over this when I could have been doing something useful like opening a bottle of wine, or playing poker !

Unfortunately I don't have either of these parts on the shelf to physically look for differences. I have however asked Jaguar Parts Technical, so standby...

Bet it was designed by the guy who should have been fixing the throttle body potentiometer.
