I'd guess more like 8 secs to raise the roof.
The point that I was making was that I had not seen the issue of the difference in time between the opening and closing of the top factored into anyone's calculations. Just from my estimation, which WhiteXKR confirms, there is a difference in the time interval which would obviously have a great deal to do with the "rate of flow". Without an accurate accounting of that exact time differential, time being a fundamental aspect of "rate of flow", then determining the "rate of flow" is folly.

It would be like saying, "I drove 6 miles. Now, without you knowing how long it took me, calculate my average speed."

I might add that your bringing up the point about the rods occupying some of the volume in the cylinder was a great point, and explained the different levels in the reservoir. I think the thread took a wayward turn when it got into "rate of flow" and I kept waiting for someone to bring up the issue of "time". After two or three days, I felt compelled to bring it up, because, as I said, I had and have the distinct impression just from operating my top that it takes longer to open than it does to close, so that the time interval, not being identical, has to be accounted for in "rate of flow".

Ok, to bring this discussion to a MUCH lower level, what's the best way to get the hyd fluid into the reservoir? Just a small rubber or plastic hose from the can? Sorry, it's my first time adding fluid.

Thanks.

Use this link JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource and you will see a syringe that you can get. I used my wifes basting syringe when I first did the refill.

Another thanks for the suggestion of how to fill it - I just went through 4 pages looking for that answer! Guess I would have worked it out myself but thought someone would have a suggestion of how to get the fluid in.

I think we've beat this 'top line - bottom line' thing to death. I experienced a down position failure and refilled to 'in between' and it still doesn't work. I'll add some more juice.

What failure did you experience?
