you haven't worn out your welcome some times following a thread is not easy and can be missed. If you have a small battery charger (trickle charger) it would be good to put it on the battery just to keep it topped up 12.4 is ok to start the car so long as the amps are up to normal and a trickle charger will do this. The car will be fine from coasting to a stop after the breakdown.

UPDATE:

The mystery continues. ECU, no problem. Power and grounds to all fuse boxes and to engine and chassis and to all fuses and relays, no problem. Power to all modules, no problem.

So we have a near perfect car that just does not know it is near perfect. I had a jag expert over who spent about 6 hours testing every known item to check and, no problem.

This will be the best looking, most mechanically sound 61,000 mile parts car in the world. I am just about to head down that path just because I do not the time for this kind of silliness. My friend has one more contact that may be able to help. Fingers still somewhat crossed.

All my searches have never yielded another XK8 owner with this problem, although I did find a similar issue with a 1998 XJR. There a is screw loose, connection issue, or some other 2 second fix for the person who can find it. For me, I have spent only the $175 to have the ecu checked over the last month, so it has not been a bank breaker.

Thanks to everyone here for your suggestions. May your problems be fixable.

Good Luck!

If you have a simple multimeter, it might be worth just testing the CAN network to rule it out (or in maybe !!)
See post #3 here :

xk8 code p1797

Probably not your problem, but worth the 30 minutes it takes to find out.

Cheers,
David.
