A Totaled XK8 and a New Journey
So I have had my 2000 XK8 since December- my first car. Purchased for the grand amount of $1200. The car was not running, in disrepair, and cosmetically awful. I have spent these past 6 months *almost* fully restoring it to glory. This was oxidized paint and dents, cracked windshield, bad fuel pump and battery, bad sensors, heavily neglected interior, the green shower, and much more. The journey was a fun one, and I have probably put 3 grand into the car total. Daily driver @80 miles a day and never once had an issue. Last week I braked for a deer and was rear ended…unfortunately it is frame damage and my beloved xk8 was totaled. Thank god there were no airbags and we are all okay. I did what any sensible person would do and started looking for another Jaguar
Here is what I bought yesterday- a clean title 2000 XKR coupe! Has been sitting and the fuel pumps are the issue, heard it run off some starter fluid and sounds pretty strong. Silver in color but paint is faded pretty bad…so I will probably wrap the car. It needs a pretty thorough cleaning and probably a little engine overhaul (oil, coils, spark plugs, ect), but I am thrilled to be restoring yet another jag. Along with some new rims and tires, interior plastic pieces, and a little love I am sure it will turn out to be just as pretty as when it rolled out of the factory.
I trailer it home later this month…anyone have suggestions on where I should start once the fuel pumps are replaced?

Glad you are OK. Great choice in first and second vehicles.
When I had my 2002 XKR I had to replace the fuel pumps as well, along with several other things. The fuel pumps aren't too bad, about $50 on rockauto.com, but you will need 2 of them.
It seems to me I pulled the rear seat, and package shelf to replace them through the subwoofer hole.
As to next steps, get it running, drive it, and see what else it needs. I would change all of the fluids for one thing. Then check over the suspension for worn loose parts.

The job is bad and risky enough (working in gasoline in an enclosed space.. ugh) that you only want to do it once. Replace BOTH pumps and make sure that the hose clamps are TIGHT. Be careful of the short hoses on top between the exit flange and the pipes on the back of the tank. The dual diameter one is $120 if you split it.

It was over 10 years ago, but I never had an issue with mine after the Rock Auto pumps were put in. It ran better than it ever had before, but I think that car had a bad secondary, and sketchy primary pumps when I got it.
Rockauto sells the same brands of parts as any other parts store. You can buy a good or a bad one at either place, but I would agree to get a reputable brand part. The $50 per pump I mentioned should get you a good one, but I would not install the $9 pump they offer.
The pumps are the same as the one used in the Ford Ranger (and possibly other vehicles) of that era.

Thank you all for the advice! I am not sure what brand my mechanic used when he replaced the pump on the xk8...but it worked great and the car ran perfectly. I might shoot for Bosch as they have a pretty good reputation and they arent too expensive...around $100 a pump.
I am also wondering if XJ wheels would fit as a temporary fix to the *every rim and tire is different 😂* issue. Online it looks like they are 120.65 and not 120.7 bolt pattern. Reason being there is a $200 set at my local junk yard that's in pretty good condition. Kinda ugly little things but it would be great until I can find some good wheels.
