Tough decision, XKR vs XK8, or maybe not

It's good and bad. Parts will arrive from UPS and I come home from work and he's already bolting them on. When I ask him how, he says he watched the youtube video.
He has fixed a Cheerleader's car at his high school when she tore the mirror off backing out of her garage) by going to a sketchy junkyard in the ghetto and taking 3 separate mirrors and building one perfect mirror (at the junkyard) and then installed it.
He still has the attention span of a housefly and only listens half the time but cheerleaders provide focus, apparently.

there is also an '06 XK8 close by in Addison for $10K
And Topline in Irving has a Low mile '06 Xk8 for $11K and they are just south of the airport. They also have some early X100's.
Dealers may not want to deal, but its a Buyers market.

That white one looks to be worth a look. Low mileage and purrrrty.

Ungn,
Thanks for the links. That white '06 in Irving looks nice and low miles. If I walk away from the XKR I might go look at it instead.
I agree that rust is unlikely but I had that looked at closely and in-depth. Other than surface rust in the trunk and spare tire area (leaking trunk lid seal) the car is rust free.
I know about bearing problems from a previous project car. If we buy it and run in to problems on the way I will leave my wife and the car, make my way home (somehow) then return with our F350 diesel dually and a trailer. That would turn it into an adventure!
Whatever happens this weekend we are determined to have fun!
Oh, I forgot to mention, this car is a 60th birthday present from my father who passed away last year.

It might not be an XKR but it would be tempting if I walk away from the 'R.

Is there a local dealership or private sale to possibly look into?

DFW to Clearwater is not a bad drive. I usually do Ft Lauderdale/DFW in a long day, rolling out of FL at 1AM.
3 hours out of DFW Shreveport has Casinos and rental cars, 8 hours out is new Orleans, 10 Hours is Mobile, both most wives would be fine with. If you make it past that you can get a cheap hotel room on the beach and your wife won't complain too much while you get the truck.

There are many XK8's in the state within my budget. I couldn't find a single affordable XKR. One of those XK8's (or one of the Dallas-area ones, since I'd be there anyway) is my fall-back position.

We are planning to leave Saturday afternoon, stop for the night somewhere and be home sometime Sunday. No problem. We've done much longer drives!

I just wish I could bring a selection of tools with me but we are only doing carry-on. And now no time to go home and pack some even if I wanted to.

Yep. I was thinking along the same lines as a worst-case scenario. Being an engineer of sorts I aim for the best and plan for the worst so I'm ready for almost anything.

The reason I settled it was $10K for a 04 with some good bolt-ons. that didn't turn out to be so good.

I settled for mine in the color department. It is a weird dark charcoal, metallic midnight blue. no matter how clean it is it still looks dirty. I am not a fan of dark colored cars. I really wanted a silver one.

PEF midnight metalic and I don't like it at all.... almost to the point of looking for a different color XKR. I am also not a fan of the big 19" wheels, I really like the early, I think they are called "hydra" 5 spoke splitting in to 10. They were found on early XKR models. However I love my car.... inside is awesome, and now runs amazing. I can't wait to see what a proper suspension is going to do for it.

Love my 02 xkr vert, black. 49k miles when I purchased from another Viet Vet's estate. Mfg date past the problems with this and that. Do all my own work anyway and it has been running spectacular until a bit ago when BOTH fuel pumps appear to be pickled (why did they put these in the gas tanks ?? Anyway, will get to that as soon as I find the short in my 89 xjs vert ABS system !!!
OH well, they ARE JAGs !!! And we love them !!
Ken in wild and wonderful WV.... by golly

Don't bother jumping on a plane; I'm already 200 miles on my way home in Katherine (Kat, Jaguar -get it?
Kat is running great! Engine is smooth and powerful. More than once after passing I found my speed was ridiculously high (3 digits!) and had to back it off.
Yes, we checked fluids before leaving and will watch them closely. So far we only seen to be losing fuel! LOL
The ride is HARSH! Maybe it is worrying problems being reported as Suspension Failure out maybe it is truly failed shocks. Simple solution is my electric tech will sort the wiring and my mechanic friend and I will replace the suspension parts.
The leather is fine and only needs cleaning.
Enjoying the drive home!
