Default trailering question

I'm moving 1100 miles and was planning to put the 1998 XK8 convt on a Penske trailer. The car sits pretty low and I'm hoping the bouncing doesn't cause the undercarriage or nose of the car to hit the trailer. Has anyone had any experience trailering these vehicles?

Thanks

Just don't go four wheeling with your trailer, and you will be fine. To bottom out you really have to hit a deep pot hole or dip in the road. Ive bottomed out twice, on a rough railroad track, and a deep pot hole.

Why would the car bottom out on the trailer? does it bottom out on the open road because if it does, you need to sort out your springs

I always use chains and binders when trailering cars. The XK8 is really easy to chain down, they have a spot in the back that you can put a shackle in and there should be a tow eye in the trunk with the other tools that you screw into the front. Just make sure to bind it down tight enough that you squat the suspension to prevent the car from bouncing and shifting on the trailer.

There is a strip of metal across the front of the trailer. Also, there is a "tire stop" that is a piece of metal a couple inches high that is on the trailer where the front car tires come to. This metal touches the plastic underneath the car, and is what I'm concerned about. I was wondering if a 2" X 8" board under each front car tire would help raise the car and prevent it from beating on the front of the trailer. The front car tires are strapped down to the trailer to secure it.

I don't know if there is any difference but I use U-Haul trailers all the time for XK8s. I have never had a problem with any damage to the car. I have hauled them up to 300 miles. I use the straps around the front tires and add a safety chain around the rear end for insurance. The straps around the front tires are more than enough to hold the car but you can add extra tie downs for your own piece of mind.
