So just for giggles, I got a price from the local Jag dealer for a new or rebuilt transmission. They quoted a rebuilt at $10,000.00 just for the box. Then another $2,000.00 to install it, and whatever for fluid and stuff. Didn't get that last number as I was convulsing by then. Needless to say, I'm still looking at alternatives. My wife may have actually found the answer as her friend's husband loves the car and knows the independant shop who has it now and believes he can get a big discount for the work if it was his as he owns a construction company and get's all his vehicles serviced there. So if he can get a good deal at the shop, and pay me a reasonable price for the car, we both win. (Except I'm out one beautiful Jag.) Keeping my fingers crossed, and hopefully I may get another some day. Maybe even an R.

So I wake up this morning thinking "What am I doing with this car? So it needs a tranny. That will make it shift better and hopefully not fail again as long as I can drive it. After all, the fragile original one made it 145.k miles. This one will be upgraded to newer parts. $4400. to keep this beautiful car? Is that really too much?" What will the replacement cost (Whatever that might be) once I start digging into it? If I'm in the hooby to drive and maintain cars like this, I have to expect to spend money on them once in a while. I can't fix everything myself, and I've done a lot on that car, with more to go. When I look at what I've spent over the last 6 years since I've owned it, and include what I've paid to restore and maintain this, my MGTD, and my MGB V6, it really isn't that much for what I have. If it was all about being practical, I'd only be driving Subarus and Toyotas. (OK, so maybe my daily driver is a Subaru, but I actually like that car too). That damned Jag has me wrapped.
