I’ve ran this procedure several times with no idle improvement.

This reset procedure did appear to reset the transmission adaptions. I no longer have the hard engagement into drive or reverse when cold. I assume the pressures will adapt back over time.

I was in the San Francisco area for business this past January. The transmission in my 2001 XK8 Convertible completely failed. It had exhibited a few warning signs before the final failure. I did some searching for a local shop. Went with the following:Bacchus British Service (Dublin, CA) . The complete charge for a rebuilt transmission installed with a 2 yr 24,000 miles warranty was $3800 plus tax (on $2300 of parts).

Since then I have returned to home base in Florida. Because of the $2000 ish cost to ship the car back to CA (if ever needed), I decided to look at cost of buying a used transmission off EBay ($650 - $1200 plus shipping) and rebuild it to new specifications. An estimated total for all wearable parts is $2500.00. With two XK8's using the same transmission, it would be nice to have a spare waiting for one of the cars to fail. I am not a fan of doing and or paying for things twice.

Hope this info helps.

So you knew your your ZF unit was having trouble but you decided to go ahead and drive it from Florida to California? Why were you willing to take that chance?

Not quite. I drove from FL to CA in early November. It wasn't until mid December the transmission started to exhibit some signs of trouble. It complately failed mid January. I returned to FL in early April. There is about 7,000 miles on the rebuilt transmission; seams to be ok.

Becky, when I was shopping for an XK8, found a nice one in Naples, FL. FYI, dealer quote to ship to Sac was around $1,400 (open) which seems pretty reasonable. Decided not to buy because I don't want to buy a car unseen. I've enjoyed phone calls w/ the owner of Bacchus. Seems very competent which of course means expensive.

Glad to hear that your refurbished ZF unit appears to be holding up. Happy motoring....

Hi. Was that shipping quote recent?

Thanks.
