Default Transmission service

We bought a 1998 XK8 with 105000 on it, I have done most of the work on it thanks to this site, We are trying to get this up to snuff, weekend only driver and on sunny days since it is a conv
The transmission shift great, no banging, no hard shifts or noise, and smooth. Do I have my oil and filter changed on it, or just wait until it goes, The rumor is you don`t change the fliud in a auto trans that has never been change or that may miles on it or it will blow up. Is it a rumor because the transmission shop down the street changes oil in jaguars for $260.00, don`t think thats to bad, what about adding additives to the trans like a lucas oil product along with it,

The ESSO LT71141 is a TEN YEAR FLUID. ZF recommends the fluid changed every ten years. I have a 1999 XJ8L and the filter kit from ATP is around $50. The VW G152 162 A2 Fluid is the same as the ESSO fluid.

I Bought a quart of BLACK DOG fluid from BPI (motorcars LTD) to see what it looked and smelled like. It is different from the ESSO/VW fluid but they claim compatibility. When I run out of ESSO and VW fluid I'll probably try a fill of the BLACK DOG. I have been installing the updated 'A'drums (foreward drum) from transpartstech in IL and change the filter and fluid as part of the repair.

It won't blow up, but the clutches will slip more and more until the trans. completely fails. That rumor has been true for more than a few members here. It's about $5000 to rebuild the trans. You ready to take a $5000 gamble?

then they're using some cheap crap for fluid -the correct synthetic fluid alone costs more than that.
