Default Trouble Changing Brake Pads

Hello,

I'm replacing the factory pads on my 05 XK8 with a set of Akebono's. The problem I'm having is that the pads are so thick that the pad/caliper assembly will not clear the rotor. This is even after pushing the piston in all the way with a large c-clamp. Could it be the wrong pad? They should be correct because the pads fit into the caliper just fine. Should I grind one of them down? I' don't know...maybe I'm overlooking something simple. I've changed many brake pads, but never run into this before. Thanks for any suggestions.

I know this sounds stupid but I've seen people try and install the pads backwards, meaning front side of pad towards the rear and vice versa. The clips will still fit into the piston but not flush into the caliper. Other than that, if the piston is fully seated into the caliper it should fit. What is the thickness of the pad?

That's a good thought. I went back and made sure that I was trying to install them correctly. All the pads are exactly 1/2" thick. Maybe I'll swap them out for another set. I got them from auto parts warehouse.

Is your caliper retracting all the way? I had one that would not retract all the way and had to be replaced (pitted/rust).

12mm is about right for the thickness. Only thing I can think of is the piston is not compressed all the way. Is this only on one caliper, both?
