Hello - new Jag owner here. A dumb question, which believe me I have Googled, but I can't seem to determine if the trunk on my '06 XK8 is supposed to "auto-close" or not. Not having owned a Jaguar before, perhaps it is taken for granted that all Jaguars have this feature - but I can't seem to confirm it on the Internet for the XK8.


And, obviously, reason for asking is that my trunk is difficult to latch closed, and if it is supposed to auto-close, that does not work. When unlocked, it does kind of make a whirring noise like perhaps it is re-positioning itself for closing.


Finally, if it is supposed to auto-close, and if you could point me to somewhere in these forums on how to troubleshoot this, it would be most appreciated. (I have searched).

 

These trunks definitely do not auto-close.

The lock actuator is a small motor, not a solenoid, so that may be the sound you hear.

 

The rear hatch on the new F-Type has an Auto close option but the convertible didn't even get the option. I'm not aware of a lot of Jaguars that have this. Not sure why you'd want it either. It is far quicker to close the trunk manually. I do a lot of mods but that one isn't even remotely interesting.

As others have said - NO "auto-close".

I see the US spec includes an emergency internal release handle which doesn't appear on European spec vehicles:

The Italian versions don't have the trunk/boot release either. The folks in their trunks are usually in "restricted performance mode" (aka: tied up).
