Default Tyre (tire) size

The current shoes on my 97 are 245/50-17. This size is not available on my shores. The closest alternatives are 235/50-17 and 255/45-17. What are you running on?

Pretty good selection of tires in that size. Speedometer off 1%

Hey David. are you saying that someone with R17 wheels could use either of the alternatives Par mentioned, but speedo impact is only 1%?

I'm pricing new tires, some of them might be a bit cheaper than P245/50 R17.

Any issues with tyres scrubbing on suspension etc with the 255 tyres?

There is a website call automobile catalog that you can look up your car and it will give you alternative tire sizes. All the alternatives are within 3% diameter of the stock 245/50 17 size. I was off a litte in that the 235/55 17 tire is plus 1.9 %. That means when the speedo says 100 you are acturally doing 101.9 MPH. I was OK with that as I wanted to make my car "taller" in both gearing and ground clearance. I had 245/45 17s on the car when I got it and they were really to "short", ground clearance was a issue.

Went for Goodyear 235/55-17. Supremely comfortable and minimal noise. Summer has arrived so topless cruising is wonderful.

My 1997 XK8 coupe [bought last year] came with BFG G-Force 255/50ZR17 front & back.
No rubbing on suspension components.
I'd like to change rims to 18' 7-spoke or double 5s.
Chris
