Update on Wayne's Shock Mounts (with pictures)
#21
Another update on Wayne's Mounts. Just set up my Laser measuring fixture and checked the Right side ride height. i used this as my benchmark as all original measurements were preformed on this side. Accumulated miles are 2000 over 6 months with smooth paved roads since work in June this year. 155k thru 157k miles. The ride height is right on the 15 5/8" or 397mm. Extremely pleased with quality, and info provided by the provider of the poly mounts. My thoughts on Camber, if you are told camber is Negative, (Top tire laying in, bottom out), you probably need new springs, not eccentric bolt to correct. Weak springs are not fixed by a odd bolts.
Merry Christmas to all, Happy New Year.

Update to Wayne's Shock Mounts:
I think we can call Wayne's shock mounts a resounding success. There is virtually no wear and tear in them in the two years I have had them installed. Nearly 9k miles of harsh Puerto Rico roads. The entire suspension is in perfect condition except for my bump stops, which have collapsed. I am considering the Powerflex polyurethane VW bump stops, which seem to be an exact fit for our cars, as an upgrade.
My current front suspension setup, for reference:
The alignment is still in spec after having been corrected with eccentric bolts and half-shaft spacers. The car drives very smoothly, the suspension is not harsh at all. There are no noises, and it handles like new.
Driver’s side: Still Centered
Passenger Side: Still Centered
Driver’s side Donut bush: still intact
Passenger side Donut bush: still intact
Mileage evidence
Driver’s side tire: Even wear
Passenger side tire: even wear
- Time Elapsed: 1 year 11 months (2 years in May)
- Mileage at time of installation: 79,989
- Current Mileage: 88,871
- Total Mileage on Shock Mounts: 8,882
- The car was lowered 25 mm to Ride Height of 14 inches measured from the Wheel arch to the wheel center
- Current ride height: 14 inches

- Wayne's shock mounts
- Bilstein R-performance CATS shocks that I installed in December 2021 after upgrading to Wayne's mounts.
- Adamesh Lowering Springs (25 mm drop)
- Powerflex Purple Poly Upper control arm bushes
- OE lower control arm bushes
- OE anti-roll bar links
- Powerflex black antiroll bar bushes
- Lemforder Upper and Lower ball joints
- I also at some point replaced the Vee-mounts, the front cross member mounts, the engine mounts, tie-rod ends, and steering rack bushes.

Gian, thank you for taking the time to bring us a update and what a surprise to see the top still centered.
Baxtor has been a great help in going forward with another system and it does make it easier to complete when we have the cores.
Right now I'm trying to get back in the garage, but had a hip replaced and it's not going like I or anyone else planed. Coming up on 83 my be the issue, You Think, LOL.
I wish I could say when I will get back into full time but I hope to use the best of both.
So glad to hear the system I originally designed gives a smooth ride.
Thanks again to all the help from Forum members Gian, Kelly, Baxtor and Jon.

Todd, It did not go as planed but finally getting to play a few holes of golf.
Oh, you wanted to know about the mounts, LOL, yes, I have been able to help,, but the same old story, I need you old ones as I do not have any cores.
Right now it works out for most a week of down time, as I try to give a two day turnaround, can't guarantee that but I do try when I have the parts to cut down in stock.
I am looking into some other options but hard to get away from what works.
Thanks for checking.

This weekend I replaced my shock absorbers and springs. I bought the R-performance CATS shocks and the 25 mm lowering springs from Adamesh. This was the perfect time to see what 7 months and 2,811 miles of terrible puertorican roads have done to those mounts; also, two of my shock absorbers were blown (rear right, and front left). The other two shocks were weak but not blown.
Initial mileage when I installed the mounts: 79,989 miles
Current mileage: 82,800
As you can see from the pictures, Wayne's mounts are intact. They look good as new, just a little bit dirty.
Shock is perfectly centered on the mount.
The two doughnut halves that Wayne cut have retained their thickness.
Old front Springs vs New front Springs. I didn't take a picture of the comparison of the rears.
Rear shock and spring assembly
New shock absorber with new spring and Wayne's mounts
Now installed in the car
I nicked the red paint with the spring compressor. I'm sad about that.
I am impressed with the durability of Wayne's shock mounts. They will probably outlive the new shocks and springs. I am also astounded by how much better my car rides with the new shocks and springs. Tomorrow I will take the a side profile picture of the Jag on level ground to see what the new ride height is like. I had no scraping during today's test drive. I also had no odd noises, no clunks, no bangs, rattles or anything of the sort. One of my blown shocks was apparently the source of my mystery rattle. The Silver Bullet feels like a brand new car!

Nice looking shocks. I was wondering how much trouble you had with the rear shocks replacement?

Hey Wayne
Good to hear your new hip is coming along. My front shock mounts needed to be changed since I got my car 8 years ago lol. Every time I started researching replacement parts all options available were considered meh at best so I kept putting it off. Enjoying the weather cruising Myrtle Beach too much right now to sideline my car so think it will make a good winter project. I’ll check in with you in the fall or give me a holla if you need a golf partner in North Myrtle when you come down.
cheers! Glad all is well
Andrew

Well Wayne you have to start somewhere on the road to recovery and unfortunately our age doesn’t help us recover as fast as we would like. Honestly my game has gone downhill so bad over the last couple of years that playing is just not as enjoyable as it once was. You can only make so many adjustments to compensate for older worn out components lol. Seriously at times it feels like I’m playing the game for the first time. Oh well, at least I’m still good looking lol.
Still looking forward to getting together like we were planing before COVID. Maybe the new mounts will be what it takes for me to take a road trip to Spencer? Feel better and all the best.
