Upgrading from 3gauge to Navigation
Hi guys!
I'm new here and I'm thinking of updating my '99 XKR a little bit. I have noticed that many of the newer XK's have navigation systems instead of the 3 gauges in the center dash panel. Is it easy to upgrade? Is it any good? Perhaps someone in Northern Europe knows if they have map support (since I live in a really small country, many car manufacturers dont support Estonia in their navigation systems).
Mine has harman/kardon speakers. Are they standard on the XKR or something optional? I know I have to change the dash panels for sure (at least the center part but then the pattern wouldn't align anymore).
Thanks in advance and maybe it's something interesting to discuss on.

If you're thinking of using the original system, don't bother. It is years out of date pales in comparison to anything modern. I'n my own car that has it, I have modified the screen to display my phone, which is far more useful as a map.
If you really want integrated navigation, I suspect you will be much happier with a custom and modern system.
And then there is the dash wood grain. To get a matches set you will likely need to find a complete replacement dash or get them re-veneered to be the same.

There is no reason not to convert from 3 dials to nav, but you would have to ditch the internals of the factory nav unit and put a Garmin in its place. You can then add things like reversing cameras and OBD display to bring the screen right up to date. Just keep your old dials and veneer panel if you change your mind and want to revert in the future.
Before you do any of that though, make sure you have the latest timing chain tensioners etc.
