Value for breaking an XK8
Hi all,
I have just taken my XK8 from Ireland to Finland and was in the process of importing it for use up here.
I have received the Registration bill for it and it is 1.5 times what I paid for the car in Ireland.
I do love the car but am unwilling to pay such a ludicrous tax bill.
I have a few ideas on what to do with the car and one of them was to sell the car for parts. I am also toying with the idea of a road trip across Russia next summer.
I was just wondering if anybody on here has ever done it or would have a rough idea as to how much you would expect to make from it on parts?
Thanks,
John.

I have been thinking about it, and probably will not break it. You guys are right, it´s a waste of a car to do it.
She can stay tucked up for the winter in the garage, its going to be -20c next week!
As for the asking price, I was looking for about €6500 but I am open to offers.
Thanks,
John

Interesting discussion. I think you have made the correct decision.
I met a fellow Forum member here in Fla a few years back who had a lovely XJ with a blown engine. He attempted to part it out from his garage, dismantling the car in the evenings and advertising here and there. After 3 months he had to give up the project as impractical. He saw that it would take many months, maybe years, and his wife was not so happy with the prospect.
I believe he sold the car and related pieces to a Used Jag parts speciality house in Ohio who sent a truck around pick it up.
