Valve cover leak,, Same place both sides
I just bought a 1999 xk8 and took it for a little spin. 140mph for 5 miles and then I could smell oil. I pulled over and popped the hood. I have oil that looked to coming from the back of the valve cover at the same spot on each side of the engine. Is that possible. It seems to only (leak) at high rpm. Thanks for any help.

The most common problem with valve covers leaking is that they were tightened down too much in an earlier repair cracking the plastic covers. Back corners are more subject than most of the other bolts because of more difficulty in reaching them. That level of RPM's for a few minutes may have pumped more oil into the valve area than could effectively drain back.
. . . and welcome to the forum.
Where did you find that much road without police protection?

Do NOT try to tighten the valve cover to stop the leak without a little information. You can crack the cover or strip the threads if you go much beyond 9-11 Nm torque. Tightening probably will not work, and you will need to replace the gaskets, which can be done with 2001 Lincoln LS1 set. While doing so see if you have the plastic chain tensioners, which must be changed. Lots of info on that and other upgrades on this site, just use the search function.
