Default Vibration at 70-75 mph

I know there are many posts about vibration in drive train and steering and most of the responses point to wheel balance, bent wheels or out of round tire or wheel.

I recently experienced a vibration at 70-75 mph which I feel primarily in the steering wheel. My MY2000 coupe has about 74000 miles on it. I have eliminated any probable cause with wheel balance, tires or wheels. My engine mounts are good and the Vee mounts look OK. I looked at the Jurid coupler and can see cracks in the rubber disc, my question is has anyone had a vibration while driving and have it corrected by replacing the jurid coupler?

Thanks in advance for any feed back on this issue.

John

Have not had that here, but if it's cracked, I might fix it. Appears to be around $50-$160 on SNG Barratt depending on which one you choose (CBC8996).

Just curious, however, but does she sit much? Two of my three had a vibration at this speed when I first bought them which almost completely ironed itself out driving @80mph for 3-4 hours (had to bring them back), and the tendency completely ironed itself out with new tires. Have you done a road force balance?

JNelso,

Sorry never had a problem with the drive shaft coupler before. As you say, vibrations only at speed are generally caused by wheels and tyres.

Are you sure it's the Jurid Coupler? Post a picture of what you see. If it is nackered, there's a great thread by Aholbro1 on the R&R of this part with good pictures. Link below.

Jnelso,
From what you describe, I think it is the front brake rotor discs out of balance. It's unusual but not unheard of.
Sometimes, when very hot, they can warp and then wear unevenly - ultimately becoming imbalanced.
It would explain the symptoms you describe....
