Unhappy Vin identifier function?

Hello, I tried the vin identifier but got nothing, is this just for U.S vehicles?
My VIN SAJJGAED3AH042585 does not come back with any results.
Anyone know why this is or how I can check my car using a similar application?
Kind regards,
ArtyH

Even better - email jag via their web site and ask for full build spec details.

I've tried it in a few online VIN checkers and it comes back as a 2010 S-Type!

Is there a typo in the VIN you've posted?

Hope its correct. Thanks for the replies guys. Still looks correct to me, unless there is something amiss with the V5C which this pic was taken from?

Arty,

Correct! The V5C is a document produced by a Government IT system.

Check the number on the VIN plate at the bottom LH corner of the windscreen below your Tax Disc.

You do have a Tax Disc?

Thanks for the quick reply Graham, so the V5 may be incorrect?
The car is in storage some 10 miles away but I am hopefully going to get the tensioners and some other work done later in the week, I will check then.
There is no tax on the car as when I SORN 'ed it a few months ago for the winter I surrendered the tax disc.
Thanks again,
ArtyH

Arty,

I have personal registrations on my cars which I've transferred many times in more than thirty five years. As you will know, the slightest mistake on a registration document can result in losing a number so I'm extremely careful in checking them.

Over the years, I've had wrong model, year, engine capacity and colour on various registration documents.

It'll be interesting to hear if the numbers do all match on yours.

Don't know to be happy or sad as the vin is correct. No further forward but at least its numbers do match so no harm done. Could there be a fault in the vin check systems?

Cheers,
ArtyH

I tried a google search on your VIN and got several relevant results

https://www.google.ca/search?q=sajjg...-US%3Aofficial

In following the links, no two seemed to agree on what type or year of Jag you have. I'd say the on-line decoders are worth what we pay for them.

I tried a VIN for another car I own. It got the year and OEM right but not much more.

Thanks for the added help there Mikey, it does look a bit confusing, going to have to contact Jaguar U.K to get this sorted out now. When I ordered parts from the local specialist they did not seem to have a problem with the VIN or the parts. Hey Ho.

Cheers, ArtyH

Could there be a fault? Yes, I'd say so, especially considering the amount of info involved.

Plus.....

As far as I know (and I'm happy to be corrected) there is not global agreement on VIN systems/conventions.

I first became aware of this with my 80s vintage Jags which literally had two VINs on the car: the original "born with" VIN that suited Jaguar's own needs and an additional VIN assigned to satisfy USA and/or North American requirements.

More recently, as a result of similar inquiries, we've determined (conclusively, I think) that, at least thru the 1997 X300 models, Jaguar used at least two VIN conventions: USA/NA and "ROW".

I've come across the same thing with some other cars that have been gray-marketed into the USA. The VIN doesn't meet USA requirements and doesn't "compute" on any of the VIN decoders I've tried. I've concluded that all the decoders I've tried are USA-centric.....a possibility you sorta touched on in your original post.

Cheers
DD

As we know anything on Wiki should be greeted with some degree of skepticism but it looks like a good jumping-off point for more research

Vehicle identification number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apparently four different VIN conventions are currently in use?

Arty,

It's unusual for a UK Jaguar VIN not to be a straightforward decode. The only regular issue with Jaguar VIN's is vehicles produced for the Japanese market which none of the online decoders can interpret.

PM forum member Mike@Jaguar from Jaguar CRC (Customer Relationship Centre) in Coventry and I'm sure he will resolve the VIN for you.

Received a P.M from Mike this morning, he has sent me a spec sheet with the details:
As per our conversation on the forum please find below a specification list that we have for your vehicle:

Paint - Sapphire M 1806
Trim Colour - Oatmeal
Automatic Transmission
Mirrors with Interior Electrochromic Function
Audio Type R (euro rds)
Premium Sound

Traction Control

Super Sport Suspension

Space Saver Spare Wheel

F8 R9x18 7 Flute Wheels

Adaptive Damping (CATS)

Radio Frequency Locks
Intrusion Sensing
Warning Triangle

CD Autochanger

Cruise Control

DRVR=PRL PASS=PRL SEATS
Carpet Footwell Mats
Manual H/Lamp Levelling
High Mounted Stop Lamp

1999 Model Year

So it is legit and on the system, not a bad spec for the old gal.

Many thanks to both Graham for the suggestion which cleared up the problem and to Mike for making it possible, and again thanks to all who helped with other ideas.

Cheers,

ArtyH

Hopefully it will be when I get the gearbox issue sorted ( test this week, spare on hand if needed ) and the tensioners replaced, Thurs or Friday. Going to change the oil and fuel filter as well as the drive belt. Fingers crossed it all goes according to plan. My indy charges £35/hour, I'm hoping to get it all done in 4-5 hours, he is letting me help and use his lift and tools. Any change out of £200 would be a bonus to be honest. So I will report back in a new thread what happens.

You can always use an OBD II reader that has a VIN-read function, to compare the VIN stored on the vehicle's computer and the VIN displayed on the dashboard.
