I replaced my pump and crossover just recently. This is my information JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource I hope this helps.
I should note that the “O” rings are not necessary because you may not find them at the parts place.

the coupe
I just became a first time Jaquar owner (2001 xj8 59000 miles). My research indicates replacing the "plastic impellor" water pump with the metal impellor PROACTIVELY! What do you think? You commented not to use the metal impellor. Also read that the plastic timing chain will fail around 90000 miles and to replace it with the metal version also. Should I proactively replace it or wait till it gets closer to 90000 miles? Thanks, HOD1

The water pump decision I'll leave that to you, but I am of the camp that says wait it until it breaks or do it while you are already on some related issue and have it exposed.

the WP repair on the XK8 is insanely easy to repair and is a cheap part as JAG parts go. I would get the pump with the o-ring and the metal gasket. so of the other ones (metal one I first bought) did not have o-ring and the gasket was some cheap paper crap. I went with the plastic impeller. Mine last 98k, no to worried about using a new OEM one again.

I'd change both the pump, the crossover, any old hoses, and the tensioners for sure. These are not the kind of cars you want to get stuck out somewhere with a major problem -- especially overheating due to an easy to replace pump, or a destroyed engine due to the 100% inevitable failure of the tensioners. Mileage is unimportant now. 15 years on components is important. If I were you, I would change every hose, including the ones under the plenum if there is no record of it being done. When you pull the cam covers you will need new gaskets, and maybe some plugs and inspect the coils. There is a great tutorial from this site on doing it yourself, but you need patience and double check everything at each step. Those cams must be locked down from above and at the flywheel just in case. Figure on a few days of dinking around and refreshing a lot of old things. Then, hit the road and enjoy. I also upgraded my brakes at the same time.

In addition to changing the hoses you might also inspect all the (many) plastic parts in the coolant system. Many of mine have become brittle and cracked. I had the small piece that goes from the reservoir to the thermo tower crack inside the rubber hose, invisibly clogging it up.
There is a thread somewhere on the site that gives the same water pump part but in a Lincoln box for less than the one that comes the Jaguar box.
