Default water pumps

So as part of my pm this year I am doing the water pump on my 2001 XK8. .
The old uses a seal, like a crankcase seal with an o-ring to seal into the engine body and then the gasket for the side holes. The new just uses the gasket.

Any comments?

I bought a pump like that. The gasket was not a problem, but after a year I found that the o ring that seals the insert had been pinched on assembly and was leaking slightly. I just need to replace the o ring and get a new gasket.

I would go with an OEM pump. The lack of the oring will allow a vortex around the intake that may decrease pump efficiency. The lack of a machined gasket mating surface is also low quality and could weep. The new pump is a poor copy and does not belong in a good car..

I tried to purchase a new water pump from Coventry West,. Asked if the water pumps on their site employ plastic or metal impellers. Sales rep tells me metal, plastic are terrible and break. I told him that is not the case only the pre 1998 impellers had issues. He insists I'm wrong and tells me that they no longer sell the plastic impeller pumps. I have a complete and thorough understanding of pumps and of cavitation, I design and specify pumps on a regular basis. I want a plastic one with the O-Ring because it is consistent with the hydronic design of the pump/glycol combination in my 99XK8. I do not have a Jag dealer in my neck of the woods. Can anyone direct me to an online dealer of the OEM pump in the US were I can buy a pump at a reasonable price and ship it to my Cottage in good old Michigan. Thanks :-)
