Question what code reader to purchase

I request to know which code reader I should purchase for a 2003 XJ8 (base model / 4.0 ) and where in the car it plugs in. Thanks in advance.

on my 03 XK* the OBDII port is all the way to the left of car near the hood pull. I have an Android phone with the Torque app and the ELM blue tooth adapter to plug into the OBDII port. Between the APP and the ELM adapter it cost me about 10-15 bucks. The App can be used on most any car with OBDII.

The TORQUE app is the way to go. There are two versions at the moment and I fully expect that the app will be enhanced in the future. For free or a few bucks it cannot be beat.

If your phone is big enough you can put up 4 analog or digital meters at the same to watch eng temp, rpms, transmission temp, air intake temp, fuel trim or a number of others all at the same time while driving.

If you insist on spending a hundred bucks here is an exhaustive discussion on the subject: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...oved-**-33347/

+1 for Torque but you will also need a Bluetooth adapter and from my, and many others' experiences, the very cheap Chinese ones can be a bit of a lottery .
Some seem to work fine 100% of the time - others don't work at all, or only work when they feel like it.
I had problems with mine, and eventually gave up and purchased a PLX Kiwi adapter - bit more expensive but works every time and has been good.
