Replaced the right rear wheel bearings, right shock and rear sway bar link bushings. Not as bad a job (bearings) as I was thinking it might be.

 

Tomorow I plan to change the water in my windshield washer.

Not saying that things are getting bad, but today at the Breakfast table, my wife asked me to toast a slice of bread. I raised my glass of Cabernet, and said "Here's to the Bread".

So time for my annual service of my 99 XK8 and got the BPK210 service kit from British Parts, UK. Cheap and complete.

7L of Liqui Moly 10W40, and OEM filter. Entire Air box and tunnel was easy to remove for easier access to the air box filter and I used dedicated spray for cleaning the MAF sensor.

Only problem was the old oil “slopped” over the edge of the pan and left a puddle on the garage floor, and I made bigger stain when I dragged the pan out from under the car.

I’ll get onto the fuel filter later.

 

Performed the 120,000-mile service on my wife's 2006 XK8 this morning. 8 quarts of fresh oil & a new oil filter, new air filter, 20-ounce bottle of Chevron Techron down the fuel filler pipe, cleaned the mass air flow sensor, checked the ZF pan & sleeve for leaks, checked the two ZF 8mm shift cable bolts for tightness, cleaned all four wheel speed sensors and checked the condition of the harnesses, checked all brake pads, checked all fluids, rotated the tires (staggered wheels so it is always a same-axle rotation), and took the vehicle for a 10-mile test drive after I finished up. No issues or OBDII codes found, but I probably will need to install a new set of front brake pads within the next 4,000 to 5,000 miles so something to keep my eye on....

Still a gorgeous, relatively fast, and well-handling vehicle (built in May 2005 so now 15 years old). I just wish I fit into the damn thing (no headroom, legroom, shoulder room, knee room, or foot room)....

 

Put up a banner reminding me of the time when Standard Oil was not Exxon and Exxon was not Mobil (unlike everywhere else in the world where Esso is ExxonMobil). Happy Motoring!

 

Replaced the 2 front gas struts to the hood. Went with StrongArm 7051. Big difference in resistance, feels so much safer. The old ones were at the edge, so still working sort of fine, but checking the oil in cold weather was getting to be 50/50. Having to strategically position tools around the engine bay in the off chance these struts would give up was getting old, too, as not every job calls for that vertical service position. 2 min job, cheap parts. Hopefully they last as long as the originals.

StrongArm is a great product at a very fair price. I replaced both factory hood struts on my wife's 2015 Lexus RX350 last October because they were beginning to get weak. Those new StrongArm hood struts are far more robust than the factory Lexus hood struts ever were....

Syb - not sure what all parts were in that post but some of the interior parts were ordered through SNG Barratts and the arm rest was ordered through a dealership - so it probably cost about $200 or more. I'll have to see if I can find the paperwork as a forum member had a coupon for $500 in parts that I bought, he ordered parts and then shipped them to me - so there were a few items on the list

After a couple of weeks of collecting lights, false starts, and replacing the wrong bulbs(incandescents tied to the CAN buss), I have finally(I think??) replaced all the possible incandescent bulbs with LEDs(except small headlight side bulbs. Hands too big). I even did the modification to tie in my Brake/rear Fog lights and set up the front Fogs as DRLs (Connection with diodes). The YouTube explanation for this was EXCELLENT. Even I could follow it.
Hopefully there are no long term problems with these modifications.
Next to tackle inop headrest on driver's seat.

 

I finally completed my ZF filter and fluid change today. It has been a long road but after gaining a couple of exhaust burns I managed to get the fill bolt back in.

Then continued to try and remove my front bumper but I am having a nightmare with the rivnuts the hold the sides on. 4 sheared off, 1 came out and the last one just keeps rotating. Had to remove the headlight to get to it so now going to have to cut it off from inside the "eye socket".

So much to do and so little time!

 

Snap, I too did my trans filter & fluid change yesterday, I also have a matching set of exhaust burns.

Whilst under the car I noticed my exhaust looked a little dirty so off came the rear section (stainless straight through) for a good clean & polish. I know nobody will see it but I know its done.

Next job, front shock top mounts & bottom bushings, track rod ends, ABS sensor clean & try to find which bearing/pulley is being noisy on the front of the engine.

Happy days.

 

My exhaust is still stock so changing that is on my very long todo list!

Also planning to clean up the abs sensors while the car is up on stands but the rust patches I found while working underneath are my priority.

Once the bumper is off I can treat the whole front frame.

Hopefully I will actually get time to test drive the new transmission fluid before we get I to winter again!

Not too keen on getting involved with the suspension myself as pretty much every bolt I have removed so far has snapped or rounded off.

 

Polishing the exhaust system??? Time to get this Covid thing over. I'm afraid I will start polishing my lug nuts soon..............

 

Totally agree with the Covid thing. Only the rear section was taken off, it was full of road crud but now looks like new. Like I said, I know no one will see it but it keeps my car mint so I'm happy.

I plan to replace my exhaust aft of the large center muffler later this month. Hopefully this will improve sound, still be legal, and maybe even let the car 'breath' a little better.
