Basically I had swapped the one that was on my car a while ago for the spare one that I was given when I bought the car, due to there being a buildup of pressure when I open my gas cap to get gas. It only helped like one time, then I started getting the same pressure release and then I actually started getting some gas smelling fumes when I was sitting at a stop light after driving some. I have had a little bit of a shake for a while and I thought I'd jack up the front and verify that the suspension components felt good, and decided to go ahead and swap my old canister back in to see if the smell went away. So far it has! As an odd side effect, it seems like my shaking has gotten slightly better too! Not sure if it was affecting the fuel pressure somehow. Who knows smh.
I've just done exactly the same job with the carbon cans. Lock down has given given some of us the time to do those five minute jobs, that just take days. Once you open the wheel arches, it seems to just open up a huge list of other five minute jobs that can be tackled with time and patience. So the front of the car has now been detailed and an aluminum aerodynamic bumper finally fitted after nine years of ownership. I feel quite proud of myself. Lock down isn't all bad.
My XK8 got some new shoes today! I went with the Michelin Pilot A/S 245 in the front and 255 in the rear from the PO's decision to go with 255s all around.ten years ago. Now I can finally drive and not be afraid of blowing 10-year old tires with cracked sidewalls!
I mentioned earlier in this thread, new front springs and shocks. I dropped off my 2 right side wheels at The Wheel Doctor here in Cincinnati to repair my stupid curbing I did the first summer I owned my car. DOH!!! So while they are gone it's a good time to get the struts changed. I have the right side done already with my super duper strut compressor. I took the inner liner out as suggested here and made it a little easier and that in itself was easy. I cleaned some more California desert dust out of the nooks and crannies looked things over, got to know a little more about my baby. New tires are going on the rear at this time too, I ordered up some Continentals.
Made a small mounting bracket for the engine bay (firewall). Somewhere for smaller added stuff to cling on to. In this case a vacuum sensor, since my Xkr 4.0 doesn't have one. Wiring loom goes to an Arduino for processing the signal
Today i replaced my aerial grommet (much overlooked and a cause of water intrusion), not much of a job admittedly ..........................but on the other side of the coin its the end of a list that started with;
Dropped valve seat, 2 shot coils, ABS module up the creek, green showered absolutely minging $3500Cdn turd i started with
luckily i like lists, just as well as no doubt there will be another 'to do' one coming shortly
Finally got a back-up key and transponder. When I bought the car in March, it only came with one key and key fob. I read through so, so many threads on getting replacements made and it's a tough as it sounds. I called multiple locksmiths, all who said they did Jag keys, but when I got to the model and finally, the year, they all said they couldn't do it!. They were all generally helpful though, and each gave me a couple of few referrals to follow up on. I finally hit on a guy with a kiosk at a mall just outside of Boston. Seriously, a key cutting kiosk - the cheesy kind with the novelty key chains - run by an old-school Russian. I had my doubts, but after asking him a few questions (he knew the specific chip, the number of cuts of the tibbe blank), it sounded like he knew what he was doing. After cutting the tibbe key, when he pulled out his Advanced Diagnostics Smart Pro machine, I knew it would actually work. Whew. $145 for the key and an additional $75 for another fob all programmed and working - not bad and a heck of a lot better than what dealers were quoting.
If you need a key in the Boston area and don't mind a wait (it took probably an hour for cutting and programming), PM me - I can recommend this guy.
you might check with your nearby Jaguar-LR dealer. Even the Tulsa Oklahoma dealer was able to make new keys for my ‘02. They can’t be the only dealer who still has the machine and a knowledgeable person to operate same.

PS. I bought the fob on eBay and programmed it myself.
I mean, S.W. FL... I haven't been there in awhile but there's gotta be some old-school Russian locksmiths...oh wait Miami is the other side! (From my n=1 sample size they can get it done). Seriously though do you want me to ask the guy who did it for me if he knows anyone down there? It took me probably 6 or 7 phone calls after a few google searches to find the guy. It wasn't easy, but it probably didn't take more than a couple of hours spread out over a couple of days, all in.
But the price. My last key from my dealer was $499.
looks like there’s a wide variance in the prices charged by dealers. I paid just under $200. They quoted more on the phone but had pity on me when I showed up .
