The "What did you work on today" thread.

Bought a new (used) key fob on eBay and programmed it this morning. Programming instructions worked like a charm!
The middle one is the one I just acquired, the one on the left is the one that came with the car, and the non-standard one on the right is the one the locksmith made when he cut the second key.
Cheers,
Norm

Thanks Gus,
Great manuals. My convertible top hose blew out, and the battery runs down in 5 or 6 days. I was wondering if I could disconnect one fuse box at a time to narrow down my search, or can you reset these computers and improve function. Power seats stopped working recently. It will soon be my daily driver when my ceramic pads come in, could not find directional that came on it

The "what now" saga
Pulled the 04 XK8 Convertible into the shop a few weeks ago determined to be ready for sunny days. I put new plugs, serpentine belt, oil and filter, lower hose and the infamous brake light switch on it and stared out the window for an opportunity to cruise. First time out a couple of weeks later it went about a half mile and started missing out like crazy. Returned to the shop peed off for sure. First time I read the codes it said PO 357 and I cleared it to see what would happen. Re-started it and got codes 302 and something else related to high fuel pressure. It just had a new filter a few miles back and the pressure was reading live at 55 psi but if I revved it up it once flickered to 70. I decided to find the dead miss first. I put all new coils and rebuilt injectors in it (it has 109k miles so it was time anyway) and cleared the codes. Several of the injector plug snaps were missing but they were on snug so tried it anyway. It started and ran smoother than ever. I drove it to a nearby town for a total of about 40 miles with no problem. Started it yesterday and the CEL immediately came on with codes 305, 306 and 1316 not to mention 1000 which seems to be constant. I could detect a slight misfire at idle so no surprise there. I guess the next thing is to fix the injector plugs and see what happens...or run it off into the river...

I replaced the broken connectors yesterday and cleaned all the rest and tweaked the pins a bit and the codes are gone at least for now. The interesting thing is that neither of the cylinders indicated as misfiring by the codes had broken plugs. I now pray to the Jaguar gods to let me have a little fun before the next uh-oh moment...

Well, rather than sink the XK* convertible in the river (it's just so damn pretty), I tore into it again. The latest codes indicated a fuel rail pressure too high situation. I took the sage advice gleaned from several related posts herein and put a Standard Ignition Products fuel pressure sensor on and double checked everything else. Said a little prayer that the fuel pump was ok. After the installation, I tried to get the fuel pressure reading on live data to spike to 70 lbs when revved in neutral like it would do sometimes before but the highest spike was about 59 lbs. I'm proud (though somewhat leery of a jinx) to say that I have driven it all week without a single issue. It runs noticeably smoother, maintains road speed better and just feels better all around. Thanks to all for the information that makes maintenance less maddening. If it weren't for this forum, I'd have sold it long before now.
