Well this was over the weekend; had to replace the low pressure power steering hose and sort an issue with the pump. In the process of removing the pump my mechanic also took out the dipstick tube without realizing what a PITA it would be to get it back in! (I Didn't read the threads beforehand!). So a simple hour or two long fix ended up taking 9 hours as we tried to put that blasted tube back.
Had no luck after over 4 hours of struggling (read through the threads here on the subject by that point) and finally decided to take off the bonnet (hood), radiator fans and move the AC compressor forward so we could see what we were doing. After that was done, putting the tube back took less than a minute! Lesson learned!
Today I managed to remove trans pan, filter, and valve body. Replaced hp valve with Transgo. Got everything back together and waiting on fluid to be delivered.
Got my factory antenna working properly (clean, lube and straighten) and then promptly pulled the power wire. Mostly listen to CDs anyhow, and my favorite station still comes in clearly.
Also replaced a blown fuse for the cigar lighter (so now I can charge my phone) and re-tightened a loose passenger visor that was flapping about.
While I was in the trunk mucking about I cleaned all the components in the rack where the cd changer is mounted and tidied up the wiring.
Had the pleasure of detailing an Aston Martin Db8 (the earlier DB's inspired the Jaguar XKR), not very common around my neck of the woods. It's the first time that I've seen in person a 'racing green' leather interior. A real unique shade of green that really shouts out 'posh, stiff *** brit and motor racing heritage'!! What a pleasure to work on such a beutifu

The whole visor or just the flap over the mirror? The latter is what's broken on mine. Really annoying when I put the visor to use.
Got transmission mostly filled back up with fluid but part of shipment was delayed so now will probably be Monday before other arrives. Replaced water temp connector which was serviceable but needed replacement. Worked on other electrical issues and have talked with amp about connectors. Sent pics and waiting on reply. If any luck I will post on forum. So far have not identified extraction tool to be used on em81 going to ECU.
Finally got rest of trans fluid and finished topping off. Heard back from mouser and they can't identity connector so still looking for extraction tool and correct pins. Got a Lisle 56500 but not what I need for connector on ecm
I got the wheels back today that I had straightened and repainted over the winter, the weather has broken enough in London, ON to take the baby for a top down drive to visit my new friend from this forum who just got his 2005 XKR. Over the winter I replaced the valley hoses, octopus and thermostat housing and this was the first startup with that done. I also replaced the CCV valve and finally have no Check Engine Light for a small evaporative leak. They are calling for a chance of snow again again. I can just relax now and wait for the weather to finally break and then enjoy the baby for another summer.
Today I completed installing a Garmin Nuvi 58 LM in place of the original Alpine system.
Read a thread from a forum member and his YouTube video how too.
Really easy: remove glove box and locate the unused switched power point. Thread power line to central dash location and connect to power point; remove the Apline head. Made up wire screens to cover controls either side if the screen, epoxied them in and then mounted the Garmin with two sided tape and gorilla tape. Works great and looks factory installation.
Over the weekend... Replaced the battery. Repaired a center front vent whose "left to right" fins had come free of the bar that moves them in unison. Tedious work to get them in place again. Had to get over the fear of prying the beautiful wood center panel off the dash. Not too bad once you've done it once.
Sprayed Meguire's Gold Leather Conditioner all over the seats, front and back...Let sit in the warm heat for 2 hours. Rubbed off excess... like butter...
Pulled out drivers seat belt, closed door to keep belt outside of the car...Sprayed on a diluted Pine Sol mixture and watched over a decade of dirt and oils from the prior owners dissolve away. Rinsed well, very gross, but satisfying!

Oh, I had tried to fix mine, but they were far too brittle & just dissolved. I found a like-new unit on Ebay for $35 though, so that was a relief...and yes, prying the wood off is scary at first. If the wood cover feels/ is loose, get some aquarium sealant for $2 at the pet store, and add a dab on each clip.
I want to replace the bulbs under the Jgate, but THAT is a scary DIY!
I removed all injectors, 2 came out in pieces so ordered new set. Cylinder 4 was 1 of 2 that came apart and that's where I had misfire. Also, while cleaning holes in intake found a rag stuffed under #4 injector. Should have new injectors Monday or Tuesday. See how it goes from there.
The engine had been running really rough when cold or putting the foot into it. It would also strangely stall out when passing through the dryer blowers at the end of the car wash. I finally picked up a bluetooth ODB2 scanner and retrieved PO171 and PO174 codes (lean-out on both banks).
The air intake bellows was like new (they can go brittle apparently), but yes, you guessed it, the plenum above the throttle body was not clamped down.
