Default What does this button do?

The button to the right of the fog/driving light button. What does it do? The light above it comes on when button is pressed and stays on until button is pressed again for off. I've be all over this car and I can't see it operating anything. The icon looks the same as the other button. Which would imply it's a "light" also. I do know where the search function is here and haven't had any luck, also no literature on this 01 xk8 convertible.

my car doesn't have rear fog lights. Although, I'd like to add that the small light above it is amber as where the actual light above the fog light switch is green.

And the rear "fog light" is part of the tail light and just lights up the third red circle in the tail light (the innermost one I believe).

Yep, it is indeed for the rear fog lights for the cars that have them. My wife's 2006 XK8 Victory Edition convertible does....

I have NEVER seen a North American spec Jaguar from the late 1990s onward that did NOT have rear fog lamps.

We have a winner folks! It turns the inner most light as described by blindside in the rear tail/brake lights.

So now can someone explain how this is a rear fog light: how does that work. I do not understand what a rear red tail/brake light staying on help any situation. Other than make the person driving behind you think you're riding the brakes?

in a low visibility situation (like dense fog), an extra rear red light might keep you from getting rear ended.

I’ve always viewed the light as helping your car be seen better as opposed to helping you see better.

Just to add my two bobs worth, the rear fog light should not be used unless it is foggy.

I believe that in the UK at least, fog lights front and rear are only to be used when visibility is less than 100 m

Trying not to hijack this thread, but on my '06 XK none of these buttons except the temp and radio indicator are illuminated at night with the headlights on.
Is there a CB possibly out, or must I pull the dash to find burned bulbs??

Talking Rear Fogs

It's nice to be able to use those rear fog lights when someone is tailgating you.

+1 with JimmyL

FWIW, it takes about 40 seconds of practice some night in a parking lot in front of a store windowpane so you can view the tail lights reflection. . .40 seconds practicing what you ask?

Push Hazzard on, push rear fog on off rhythmically between the Hazzard blinks.

Now "of course" I'm saying this looks cool, not that it looks exactly like the wig wag lights of an an undercover Trooper or anything (heavens no! Probably not too many undercover Jaguars out there anyway, right?). . . But um, even the rudest tailgator I've ever seen backs off instantly (what a nice "coincidence") must be to get a better view (ha ha;-)

Enjoy!

Since we don't have much FOG down here in the Houston area,...or in Arizona...Nalley and I have wired our rear Fog Lights to come on with the Brake Lights....This gives us (4) Brake Lights when we hit the Brakes, plus the Rear Window Brake Light. I have gone one step farther by installing Blinking LED's...Now that gets their Attention....!

Do you have a diagram(step by step for us dummies) for the combination and blinking LED install?? I can use all the help I can get here in S.W. Fla. to ward off the tourists(and a lot of the locals...).

Sam,

I haven't put anything together for the LED Tail Lights as yet....You have to do several things to achieve "Working" LED Tail Lights to start with and then you have to hook up the Fog Lights to the Brake Light circuit.....as another step....It's best done by showing you Photos of each Step....I'll check in with Nalley and try to get you something you can work with. Soon!. ..Several of the Guys have done this but have had some problems with the operation of the Dash Warning Light.....but Nallie figured it out and my Warning Light has not come on since I completed the switch-over to LED!.. The Bulbs are just 1157 and 1156 LED Bulbs that Blink (3) times before turning solid Red. They have a name but I can't think of it right now! Got them from Allie Lights (Amazon)....

I have switched all the lights I can to LEDs. I did have to replace a couple of tail lights back to incans due to the warning lights. I would like to see what can be done if possible.
What is Nalley? We have a Car dealer ship in Atlanta that is Nalley, but doubt it is the same.
Any help would be appreciated.
