What are you paying to insure your Jaguar?

Was just denied insurance from Hagerty because
1) I drive it to work 2 days a week (drive is 1-1/2 miles, secondary road in residential neighborhood, max 35 mph, no traffic lights).
2) I park it in front of my residence in a private parking area off street, but do not keep it in a 'solidly constructed, completely enclosed and locked structure'.
3) My yearly estimated mileage for the Jag is 4,500 miles. I tended to go on the high end when estimating my mileage in lieu of lying. My Primary Vehicle, the Jeep was estimated at 6,500 miles a year. During a subsequent call with the Underwriter, it was dropped to a more realistic 2,500 miles a year. They said that was still to much.
4) So I guess I am going to stay with GEICO, which lets me drive and park where ever and whenever I want to. GEICO is $332 more a year, but their coverage limits are not as good.
5) So a word to the wise can be had from the above.
6) Hagerty just isn't all that it is cracked up to be, unless you just want to sit in your garage in a lounge chair, smoking a big cigar (and that might be disallowed also) while looking at your Jag and wishing that you could drive it.
7) Additional Under Writing restrictions are driving to work, school, shopping, errands, general transportation or back-up use.
8) Additionally I could not qualify because an additional Under Writing restriction is 'In no event will this policy serve as my household's only auto insurance'. Which means that since I am divorced, do not have a girl friend living with me and that both my Kids are out on their own, which consequently means that I do not have a multiple person household, I can not qualify.
9) No very happy with Hagerty...

They mostly insure collector cars, you know the 55 Belair 59 Tbird 63 Vette etc. Cars that people do not use on a regular basis.
Driving to and from work and no garage is almost a definite denial from any of these types of insurance companies. (There are more than one)
As far as I am concerned getting Haggerty to insure the XK8 was an unexpected pleasant surprise.

I have four cars with Hagerty with great coverage 500,000/500,00/100,000 with no deductible. And all cars are guaranteed value at 20,20,20 and one for 15,000. All this for 1073.00 a year. And for my other four calls well I have Allstate. I am in Fl. For the car you asked 2000 Xkr, 1997 Xk8, 1950 ****** and 1929 ford model a . I had Grundy , and they are cheaper but cheaper is not better.

Italianguy63. Grundy did just changed hands, around Nov 2011 and the billing was the worst. I bought the XKR in Aug 2011 and added to my policy. They send the Ins card by email but did not get a bill till Jan 2012 . Even after calling five times and asking for it. Who don't want to get money. Then I did get the bill with my wife, me and some other guy. The bad is I was not even covered. After that I ran too Haggerty.

Guys - I will say this. From what I've learned about the insurance industry from one of my clients, they said it always pays to get a quote from multiple vendors each year, as they always change. That said, I changed last year to Liberty Mutual, and I could not believe the rates that I was given, and they only went up about $50 this year:
-1999 Jag Xk8 Conv - $200/year
-2005 SL500 - $375/year
-2001 Land Rover Disco $175/year
-2004 Volvo XC90 - $375/year
That sure makes it pretty affordable to drive those vehicles. Those are all full coverage with 1000 deductibles.

I like the way the Hagerty Plan sounds, but if the agreed upon value is 15,000 (blue book on my car is maybe 9k) couldn't they just give you blue book in the event of an accident? I raise this question given that there are now alot of these cars hitting the market at ridiculously low prices.
P.s. xk8= 1100 per year, my jag 420 is 240$ a year and although I paid 3,500 for it they made the agreed upon value 11,000.

Well, let me cheer you guys up; about $2442 for insurance (basic coverage, with theft coverage), and then $2376 in taxes just to be able to be on the street, and once on the street I pay $9,50 per US gallon from a salary already reduced by 50% by the government. And don’t even think I get a special treatment when getting tickets…

This was not a call for sympathy, remember I started by saying “let me cheer you guys up”.
I consider myself fortunate that I can drive such a car, and will enjoy it as much as I can for the time I can afford it.
PS Where I live 50% is a normal average tax, so not something to brag about LoL, maybe that is different with you in the UK?

AVOS is the Uk petrol the real stuff 100% gasoline. Here in the USA it has 10% ethanol that robs us of horsepower. So sometime I buy the real stuff 100% gas at a premium about 5.89-6.50 gal. Now I swear I can feel the difference with the 100% gas or UK calls it petrol. We have Top gear here..LOL

Avos:
I'm flying into Gatwick tomorrow, and renting a car. Fortunately, we're not going to drive very far before flying to Italy Friday.
Last time I computed gasoline in Italy, it was $9.27 per U.S. gallon.
It's not the gasoline that costs you so much, but the raping your governments are giving you on the road taxes. How do you say, "BEND OVER?"
Unfortunately, no governments are "good stewards" of tax monies.
I just don't know how one can ever accumulate sufficient retirement accounts if they live in the U.K. or Western Europe. If I lived there, I promise you I wouldn't be driving so many cars, and wouldn't have 2 boats.

@Jagsinti,
Overhere it is about 5%, but never use any fuel without ethanol anymore, so don't know what the difference would feel like. I don't have any experience with the UK 10% ethanol fuel, but from what you read, 10% might indeed be noticable.
@Bamaman,
Now you can see why I can only afford 1 car, but what a car it is ;-) Hope I can enjoy it for a long time, before new taxes are thought up to fill some holes here and there in the budget. In The Netherlands they add now a CO2 tax to the car, so a XK 5.0SC Coupe costs there $142.560 Base price, +$76.164 CO2 Tax, + $27.192 VAT = $245.916.
Pensions are under pressure over here, especially since the 2 crisis’s where funds got a big hit, and of course people living longer, so we do have some challenges ahead over here.
