Default What's the best way to check if need new front Shocks

I decided to spend a little $'s and get a full inspection done from a Jag dealership. TheCat is pretty solid.
Upper front suspension Bushings, and Anti Roll Bar Bushing were the two main items. (I've pretty much memorized RevSam videos on how to changes these two).

They also quoted for front shocks too!, though since the car doesn't keep bouncing after a bump, the ride is smooth and quiet and it doesn't pull when accelerating or braking, I'm not so sure about needing to replace the front shocks.

Any advice as to the best method to check if I need to replace the shocks (I've only had the car 2 months, with was no Maintenance records) would be very much appreciated

If the shocks are not visibly leaking, then bounce the car up and down a few times and see how long it takes to stop bouncing after you stop... if it bounces more than once (or one and a half bounces at the MOST) then I would say they are in need of replacement. That has always been my rule of thumb... leaking shocks or more than one bounce or so.

Also the lower shock bushings can be an issue. The price of a new shock with lower bushing installed is only $10 or $20 more than just the bushing, go figure.

+1 on Jandreu's post. My shocks were probably OK, but the lower bushing was shot. Easy decision to replace the whole unit.

You did not state the mileage on your car. If no leak, no extra bounce and below ~70k, then I doubt you need them.

Keep in mind to change the upper shock mount you will need to disassemble the strut and coils. All the labor to change it is already spent, so extra incentive.

Blindside, Jandreu and Jag#4 - thanks for the advice. TheCat has 105k miles
I've always done the bounce test too, and from that they look like they may be good.
I'll raise the car next weekend and take a good look under there for leakage or any other tell tale signs like lower bushings
