Get the aftermarket high flow cats. It's not the cheapest route, but it is the best route to get good sound from your exhaust.

A muffler in the XKs don't reduce as much sound as the factory cats do.

The quickest and (IMHO) most affordable trick is to replace the rear silencers with straight pipes which reuse the factory tips. That was my first mod but be warned it will eventually lead you on a never ending quest. Nameless Performance 200 cell cats are next on my list, I believe that is what Xenophobe was referring to. I have already replaced the rest of the system with a combination of Mina Gallery rear sections and a custom x pipe center section.

My car sounds pretty good now, this was evidenced as I won a best sounding exhaust contest in 2010 at a road rally (against and AM V8 Vantage, Ferrari 330, Ruf 930 etc.) 2010 Videos | B.E.A.T. Rally the sound quality is not that great but at least it is a reference. (See the video @6:45).

But, as Roymattblack mentioned, the DB9 is an entirely different animal and you will never match that sound unless you drop a 6.0L NA Aston Martin V-12 in your car.

I have the borla dual in dual out x-pipe muffler in the center with the mina exhaust finishing it out.

I'll post sound clips tomorrow. I just got a new phone and it'll record and post video very easily.

So for everyone that's been waiting, tomorrow afternoon should be posted.

I found an older video Marcb Exhaust.wmv - YouTube

I created this from a Canon Powershot SD600 digital camera, again the sound quality isn't spectacular but you get the idea. Also this is my first attempt at video editing so no need to comment on the technical aspects of the video.

VID_20120528_171915.mp4 - YouTube

I forgot to turn off DSC, and the exhaust seemed to be blowing out the mic. I'll try another in a day or so...

Nik:

Not too much droning or resonance, there is some booming when decelerating but that's what helps make the experience better, especially when you are on the left side of the J-gate!

Apparently the position of the X-pipe plays a big role in the droning If memory serves me correctly there was some research done that indicated the "X" needs to be closer to the cats to sound best.

Yes, the closer to the front, the better. The same goes for an H-pipe, if you go that route (like I did)
