Default whats wrong with this add?

I am always curious about what others are asking for the XK8 and XKR's. I found this ad this morning. if you read the add the seller wants you to think he is the original owner and the car has always been babied. Take note of the "Temporary" license plates on the rear of the car. IN Illinois you get Temporary tags until your steel tags come in the mail in 3-4 weeks. MY guess is that he bought it without doing his homework and is now faced with a huge repair bill and just wants out.

He's also asking 12k for a 97? good luck with that.

Get the VIN # and round a Carfax on the car, also see if he can produce service records or the dealers name where service was preformed.
If he is legit there should be no problem suppying that info.
Hope the buyer buys with his eyes not his heart.

Get the VIN and run a Autocheck on it. They are more indepth and are more exclusive with every auction while Carfax isnt. They list every auction the car might have been run though because I agree that with the temp tag something is fishy.

Also... 76K, Chicago, no snow ever ?? Lived there 48 years and even when I owned my XKE, which wasnt driven in winter, I caught some snow with a quick weather change one day.

Just my 2 cents.

As quoted by Barryl

I quit going to the independent licensing services in Illinois. They'll charge you a fee and make you wait for your plates. The last straw was when I tried to license a car from a dealer out of state the the guy from the licensing service gave me a line of s--t that it was going to cost more because it went through two dealers. I picked up my information and drove over to our local DMV, and they issued the plates on the spot and never mentioned anything about additional fees.

Wellll...IF he has done every bit of maintenence and R&R of all the usual wear-out components (CCTs, front suspension, rear view mirror, rear speakers, shocks, water pump, housing, and tower; overflow reservoir, hoses, belt, plugs, brake components (not just pads), transmission service or replacement, starter, power top lines and fluid, frequent oil changes (not once every 12000 miles), any bad electrical components, etc., etc..............then he might be able to ask $10,000.

For their beauty and performance an XK8 in properly maintained condition should never be worth less than $12000, but it's just not reality. His is probably a good buy at $8k.

Not sure how your 'plate' system works over the pond, but I know I like to see a car clean in all the pictures. Makes me think they were taken at different times and maybe some are when just bought and showing friends on line ....clean.....found faults and not interested anymore.....dirty? $12k when translated into proper money gets you a dealer bought or really top end private bought car.

Temp plates? Maybe he recently moved from a different state.

As for the price, yeah, he's putting his wishful thinking price up there.
