Default wheel motifs

My just purchased 2003 XKR has smooth green wheel motifs. I have been told that the XKR should have red ones. There are 2 versions available, both claimed to be "OEM," one with a growler that looks very nice, a color called ruby and a raised edge. The other has a more stylized growler, red color and a smooth edge. Which is the proper one?

The Red might be 'correct' for an XKR, however the color is still in the eye of the beholder. I had green leaper side badges and green wheel center hub covers on a red XK8 (not the R). It looked like a Xmas Tree (is that politically correct, or is it a Holiday Tree, I'll stay with Xmas and be happy). Switched to red for both and it is a lot nicer looking. Dosen't look like a designers after thought. Now if I could only find a red hood emblem (not one that says XKR) in lieu of the green one. Go with what your eyes tell you, there are numerous colors available on E-Bay. Additionally, I think that the smooth painted versus the 'ruby' type are also better looking.

What you have called ruby are the ones you should have, the other kind were fitted to X Types and other Jaguar models

I have just fitted black raised centres with polished Jaguar logo. My colour is seafrost. I think you need to choose the motifs to suit the car colour.Red sometimes looks too much.

With a faint thought towards concours, I need to know what the correct one is. Here are the 2 I've found:

My 2005MY XKR Coupe came with green centres on Detroit alloys. It was one owner dealer maintained. I'm sure they were original. I changed them for the lower red ones. I think the darker ones shown would be better, since my car is Radiance Red.
The nose cone badge is green.

I do like the top or ruby one. The growler is more like the one on the XK120 bonnet.

I would get caps to match the badge on the front, keeping the theme consistent. Though I do like that ruby one.

Just for reference, my 2003 xkr with detroits, came with green painted centers. I like the red ones, but, I'm pretty sure they were not original on my car.

It is my understanding that green was for the XK8 and red was for the XKR. Different colors on the wheels may mean that the wheels were swapped. I have an XKR, so I have red growlers on my wheels but I purchased a set of wheels/tires from another forum member and they have green growlers because he had an XK8.

" I have an XKR, so I have red growlers on my wheels..."

So are the red ones like the top picture with a raised edge, or like the smooth red one?

My 2006 XKR came with black versions of these on the 20" Sepangs. The red ones would maybe look too much with the red calipers.

My 2001 XKR Silverstone came with black centers and black leaper instead of the side lights on the fender

A friend who has a 2002 XKR says his are red, and that his bonnet badge is red also. I had thought all bonnet badges were green.

On my 05, they're black. On my 97 they're green.

My '04 XKR, Zircon Blue, has a green bonnet medallion, looks like emerald baguette stones around the Jaguar head.

It has original green wheel center caps on optional 20" Detroit's....so I ordered a new set of green center caps with the raised emblem.

I figured any other color would clash with the color, plus it has green Brembo 'R' brake calipers.

But Racer knows his stuff and now I may need to get a second Original 'Original' sets...

Here is a link to a guy with great prices on them that delivers world wide:
GENUINE JAGUAR X S TYPE XJ XK XF ALLOY WHEEL CENTRE CAP BADGES NEW C2D9611 | eBay

Be sure to ask him for the original type....he said those in the photo are replacements not OEM's.

cheers,

jj

I have the top ones on my 2002 XKR, I bought new ones because they had faded really badly, and were coming apart. Three of the four new ones broke trying to install them. Apparently they aren't made quite right, so now they are held in place by a bead of silicone from the backside. Actually now that I think about it, there were two slightly different shades of red in that style when I was looking, ruby and red.

I had one of the lower style from my X-type, and it fits MUCH nicer in the XKR wheel. If I were going through it again, I would get a set of these instead. They aren't quite as ornate, but they are more modern looking, and they fit.

This gets complicateder and complicateder. I just found this on page 4 of the below link:

Badging
A newly designed ‘growler’ is adopted which features on the following:
· Luggage compartment release button - green in color XK8 and XKR.
· Road wheel badges - green in color XK8 and XKR (possible new badge later).
· Key head - green growler and embossed growler on the security remote fob.
· Drivers airbag module - embossed growler.
· Nose badges - XK8 features ‘4.2 Litre’ XKR features ‘Supercharged’ (all green).
