Default Wheel opinions wanted!

I recently purchased a very nice 1997 XK8, with the original 17" "Revolver" wheels ... I NEED chrome wheels!

Just curious about others' opinions ... should I go with Chromed Revolvers or perhaps switch to Chromed Agulias ?

I don't need new tires, but is there any real reason to wait until I do & then switch up to 18" or 19" wheels?

Well of the two, I'd vote for the Aguilas, never liked the Revolvers much.

I have the chrome "Revolvers" on my 99 XK8. I personally like the other choice. Paint the brake calipers.

I have the chromed 19" Apollos, which look very much like the Aguilas. I like the agressive look, and the ride is still quite good compared to 20's. I think a switch to a larger wheel from the 17's would really update the look of your car. JMHO.

I put 17" Chrome Coventry Hornets on mine. Great price from Discount Tires.

I invite you to reconsider your decision on chrome wheels. I agree they can be a good choice for some cars...mostly older cars that have other chrome onboard (door handles, bumpers) to tie-in with the wheels. But for more modern sports cars, they just don't look right, in my opinion.

When was the last time you saw a factory Jaguar, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Bentley or any other high-end sports car with chrome wheels? They stay away from it. It doesn't say high-end, it just says aftermarket. And since there's no other shiny silver things on our cars to visually tie it all together, chrome wheels just hang out there by themselves, looking kinda cheap.

There are some great silvers out there that look fantastic - and correct - on these cars, without the chrome. Just a thought. I know it's a matter of personal taste, and I wish you all the best.

The Coupe,

The last time I saw a factory Jaguar with chrome wheels was this morning right before my wife took off for Tampa in her 2006 XK8 Victory Edition ragtop to visit her parents for a week. This model rolled off the factory floor with 19-inch Atlas chrome wheels as standard issue for the Victory Edition trim level. I've never particularly cared for them, but it's her car and she likes the shiny chrome look when they're clean. I'm far too conservative with my checkbook to replace perfectly good wheels solely for cosmetic reasons, so they'll stay on her car for the duration that we own it....

OK, OK...I'm wrong on that point. But I'll stand by the personal opinions!!

I don't entirely disagree with you, but also being in the Harley-Davidson world, a boy can't have enough chrome.

I really like the look of the coventry hornets 18" thats what I am going with next. I have the 17" chrome revolvers on it now.

Agreed! Harleys are a great example in the use of chrome. It looks correct on a Harley, and it always has.

On reflection, I've decided to take your advice ... no chrome wheels! I'm in the automobile business and was looking at various wheels on some of our vehicles yesterday and we have some damn nice ones, that aren't chrome!

Now I have to start over, looking for what I want. I like the "Jupiter" wheel, but apparently that wasn't made to fit the older XK8's. Any thoughts on a nice OEM, non-chrome wheel? I can't stand the stock Revolvers!

Nothing dates an XK8 more than Revolvers.

Without them very few observers could tell a 1997 from a 2003 without a close check of badges and trim.

I know its costly, but after I saw my first XKR with the 20" Detroits, I waited until I found one with them and bought it. They are my favorite Jag wheel. Those titanium 12 point bolts all around just radiate sports car. They are very hard to find now and very impractical, but I put up with them.

Aguillas are from the x-type, different mounting specs, won't fit unfortunately.

Go with the Double 5 (ot Five, not sure proper name), may have luck finding them in chrome too (but I'm not a big fan either). Besides my Apollos on my xk8, the double fives are second choice...and 18-inch too, so bigger than the revolvers, but still a good ride like you're used too.

this page has all your options that will fit.

I agree! They look better on an x308, a car they were never designed for!
