Default Where Should I Purchase a Fuel Pump?

Hello fellow Jaguarists

Well, my fuel pump went out, per my mechanic who did a diagnostic check to figure out what the problem was. when my car died My question is now this

When I look for a fuel pump and see them on ebay for 20 bucks, can I trust that they will work if ebay says they'll fit a 99 jag Xk8 instead of buying one from my mechanic?

The difference in price is about 180 dollars plus some other parts. I have it at about 50 for all the parts instead of 230 and labor. But it wasn't the alternator.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier of a fuel pump at a fair price?

Doc,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

I have moved your post from the forum for the XJ40 saloon to the forum for the XK8. Here you will have a better chance of receiving helpful replies from knowledgeable owners of similar cars.

I have also edited your post to remove the irrelevant references to the XJ40 and to make it clear that you are seeking advice about purchasing a new fuel pump.

Cheers,

Don

I didn't realize that in-tank pumps were so inexpensive.

My first thought is that the labor cost of the replacement is going to be significant and you certainly would not want to do it again. For that reason alone I would suggest that your shop provide the pump along with some warranty period for not only the pump but the reinstall labor. I suspect they will not provide a $20 pump.

The other thought is that the OEM pump was probably Denso or Bosch which are selling in the $70 to $100 range. If the labor to replace a failed new pump were on my dime I would probably go with one of them if providing the part for install.

As far as where to buy this forum's sponsor SNG Barrett does not even list a fuel pump. I go to RockAuto for website product and price information and to Coventry West for phone technical support and advice. Any number of other well respected suppliers of Jaguar parts.

since it costs a lot to get in there I would get a quality unit. I went cheap this summer for a pump in a Mustang GT. It lasted ONE day. Went ahead and put a Ford pump in, all was good.

It may be worth noting that there are two pumps in the tank. So, if you are getting no fuel, then both have likely failed.

Only one pump on the xk8, it is two pumps on the 4.0 liter xkr only.

Thank you; gentlemen all

I bought a mid price pump in a kit. My mechanic seemed to be ok with it. But, on the subject of Ignition coils, and the advice I got here, and I order and received a 2 pin coil. Wrongo! fellow un-deers. When I pulled the col cover I found four, 4-pin ignition coils made by Denso. serial number XW93-12029-AB & MB099700-0260. The parts house guy I ordered from seemed pretty surprised as well. I'll get the VIN fromthe car in the next post and see if the stroy the previous owner gave me of Jaguar replacing the engine when the timing chin tensioners failed, is actually true
