Where's JagTech?

RE: Where's JagTech?
I sent via the e-mail function. Obviously, this did not function.
Here's the deal. I bought this car last spring. Soon after I had surging issues, aka "Poor Vehicle Performance" light. Everyone said faulty TB, so I bought a used one through my Brother who is in the used car parts business.
I find out the car, a '97 XK8 convertible, has not had the TB recall reflash done, so I truck on down the 45 miles to the nearest Dealer and have it reflashed.
Problem isn't solved. I clean the MAFS, replace plugs with iridium, clean part load breather, etc. Problem not solved.
The very first time I had the surging problem it kicked a P1722 code. I had the tranny serviced etc. No problems. Never kicked it again, even though the dreaded surging and PVP light persisted.
I never put in the used TB because I was not convinced that it was the issue.
Then fall came. Maybe coincidence but since the weather became cooler, no issues at all! Odd since the initial screw up usually occurred when the car was cold and would disappear after it had been run a while, even in hot weather.
It's hard to believe it was a cold weather change that made the car run well but warm weather is around the corner. If the the symptom starts up again with the advent of warm weather, then what shall I look for? Still a TB issue or something else?
E-mail me at burnbucket@yahoo.com if you don't want to respond here.

RE: Where's JagTech?
It is possible the plugs may be causing the issue Jack. What kind are they? The XKs run better on regular old factory plugs than any other. I forget what brand they are, champion maybe. But anyway, I have seen alot of your type of running issue solved with factory plugs being put in.
Likely if the TB was the concern, it would cause a light to illuminate.

RE: Where's JagTech?
The warranty company said they would provide a used TB or pay $500 toward a new one. Not wanting to take a pig-in-a-poke I went for the new, which cost $1200. That included the installation but still was quite expensive.
Whether the warranty paid anything is anyone's guess.

RE: Where's JagTech?
Here's some more clues for you JagTech.
I drove the car to work yesterday. On my way home I hit a bump in the highway and immediately the car paused and the "PVP" light came on briefly.
That was the first time it had done that in 5-6 months. The car was normal after that.
I had noticed the bump connection before but it was always very intermittent. You had to hit the bump at just the right time/spot to trigger the response. Mostly, the PVP light would come on and the car would pause without any bump.
So there is the mystery. Faulty speed censor cable? Who the F knows!
Oh, and about my warranty. It's supposedly a warranty that is supplied through certain Dealers only. Given the fact that my "Dealer" is no longer on the web, as far as I can tell, I dread trying to actually collect on it.

RE: Where's JagTech?
Sounds like a loose connection. Likely at the throttle body. Who replaced the throttle previously? Did a connector get damaged? What about the coils? Have you looked under the coil covers and make sure that the connectors arent broken? Only takes one that someone broke the tab off of to loose connection on a bump.

RE: Where's JagTech?
Throttle body was never replaced, as far as I'm aware. I bought a replacement TB but never had it put in because I wasn't convinced it was the TB. The only TB related work that has ever been done under my Ownership was a reflash at the Dealership due to a recall and a TB clean up that was performed at the local shop (it was surging before I had them clean the TB, so I don't think they broke anything).
I have to take it in for servicing within the next month anyway. When I do, I'll ask the Mechanic to check all the connectors.

RE: Where's JagTech?
The warranty is actually through AutoSource, not the Dealer, and according to the paperwork I was given I can have any repairs done under the warranty performed by any ASE Certified Mechanic. I don't have to have them done by the Dealer who sold me the car.
After market warranties on used vehicles are always dicey, at best, anyway.
