Where's the Leather..

Marsden,
Just noticed your shift knob in your interior picture. I am looking to switch to that model knob as well, but no joy yet on eBay or the one wrecking yard I checked.
Is that a cashmere colored knob to match the dash? Did you get it used and if so where? The dealer price is too outrageous for me.

The Cashmere ones don't come up as often as the plain black or "R" ones, but do I believe this is what you're looking for:
2008 08 Jaguar XK XKR Gear Shift Knob Tan Leather Chrome Genuine | eBay
I have the black/chrome version and it really modernizes the interior I think. I would offer him $50.. that's about the going rate for these used.

During the past decade the automotive upholstery companies have gotten much better at creating leather-like surfaces that look and feel like the real thing. Mercedes Benz uses a product called MB-Tex that fools 99% of its customers, plus it wears like iron. While I still love the real thing, I can appreciate the durability and the ease-of-care that some of these products now provide....
But nothing beats the real thing...

The one on eBay looks similar but note it's from a 2008 model so may not fit. HTH.

That is a fun fact! Now I can see if there are any I like better than mine.
Although this thread has me thinking about an all-wood steering wheel instead.
Wonder if Myrtle can match the Burl Elm.

That's what I love about these cars, though, is that there's a surprising amount of customizability with various interior bits.. it's possible to tailor the look of the car to your taste. Something I've found much harder to do across other cars.
One thing to keep in mind is that, unlike the versatility of the shift knob, the steering wheel from the X350 XJ will not fit in our cars. So if you do look for an all-wood wheel, make sure it either is meant to fit the X100 XK8/XKR or the earlier generation X308 XJs, as they're the same.
Can get quite confusing sometimes!

I agree, it does not seem like many locations are actual leather. However, my '72 Buick had such a hi grade of origional vinyl, it is had to tell the difference.
I still use leather conditional on my Buick as I do on the 99 XK8. Either way vinyl or leather, conditioning is beneficial/ Rich

I bought my BRAND NEW one from this guy on ebay UK, his name is Stephen and although his listing does not specify shipping to the states, I contacted him through eBay and $50something (32GBP including airmail shipping) and a couple of weeks later, my favorite interior upgrade was done here in TX.
Jaguar Gear Knobs | eBay
Fleabay links die after a while, so for future thread readers, his ebay id is trims4u2014.
Hoping the images of my newly installed champagne one attaches to this post.
I have no affiliation with the guy, just wanted to share my experience.
Dan.

Rats! I was hoping for a much more interesting explanation than just a typo! But I meant to ask you, since the entire car was fake leather, where did you take it if you had body damage?

Anyway, I use Zaino's Leather in a Bottle exclusively for the fragrance. One of the very few which actually smells like leather (Lexol most definitely does not).
Anyway I snapped a couple of shots with the OP's question in mind, before I even saw this thread.
So, out of 12 zones I have marked only 7, 10, 11, and 12 are actually leather? I admit that I thought the armrests on the doors were leather. If most everything is vinyl then it's kind of strange how many different types & textures of vinyl are used. Some kind of subterfuge?!

I was cleaning up my door panels (door cards) today since I already had them off. At least on my black 1997, the armrest portion labeled (4) in the pics quoted above is definitely leather. I was able to check the back side of the edges. I'm not sure if that varied by year.
So I Zaino-ed that portion (4) and 303-ed the rest (parts 1,2,5, & 6 which all seem to be vinyl).
