Whiring Noise

Hi All,
I have what can only be described as a whiring noise coming from my engine. The noise changes with revs. I first thought it was a whining bearing on the front of the engine so I took both belts off, started the engine and the noise is still there.
Any ideas what it could be?
Car is a 2004.5 XKR.
Cheers,
Kev.

Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Is the noise there? If it is it could be the Supercharger coolant pump.
Start engine. Rev engine. Does the sound increase/decrease ? If it does it could be one of the belts at the front. Water pump. Alternator.
If its non of the above it must be something on your wheels.
At least you have something to think about.
If you do not have a stethoscope you can always use a long screwdriver or similar to listen carefully around the engine. Simply put the tip where you think the noise is coming from. Make a fist around the handle. Put your ear against fist.

Yes, the sound increases/decreases with revs, it cant be anything on the belts as I took them off & started the engine & the noise is still there.
The noise is there all the time, including when stationary so I cant see it being anything to do with the wheels.
I will have a check around with a bit of hose/screwdriver as suggested and see if it gives anything away.
