Whirring noise
Hi all!
My car is making an odd sound. I thought it was the top pump, but the top is fine! No messages on the dash, and an OBD reader says all clear.
It sounds like the top pump motor was running, and running, and running. But it doesn't stop or change when I operate the top in either direction, which takes about 13 seconds with the engine running. The sound seems to be coming from behind me while in either the driver or passenger seat, and only when the engine is running.
Anyone have a clue what it might be, or advice on how I might track it down? I have no idea what it is, and the not knowing is driving me nuts, thinking I might be burning something out just by driving around having it running all the time.
Thanks!

Noisy fuel pump?
Get a helper to turn the ignition on (position ii - on) while you have your head in the trunk. Pump should run for about 2 seconds then stop.
Only other motor I can think of other than the antenna is the fan in the audio amp - if you have premium sound - but that's ignition-on dependent rather than only when the engine is running.

I'd be tempted to replace the fuel filter if you don't know when/if it was last changed. It's an easy job compared to the fuel pump, which may be noisy because it's trying to push fuel through a partly-blocked filter?
Just random thoughts, but thinking of the simple things first. The pump may well be OK otherwise you might have encountered performance issues, but it's cheap PM anyway.
