White plumes of smoke ! Xkr 4.2s - please help !
Hi guys
my first post on here
110k miles
i own a 2005 xkr 4.2-s
it has been amazing and I have looked after it very well always serviced
last weekend I was driving in the motorway home and the car started to smell like burning oil and cloudy smoke coming from the exhaust
i pulled over and turned the engine off.
i turned the engine back on and the crankcase ventilator basically exploded
I got the car recovered as I didn’t want to drive it
and now when I turn the car on it smokes yo really badly
please see attached pics
any Ideas what has happened ?!
thanks

White smoke at that volume is usually due to coolant getting into the combustion chambers. Is your coolant level dropping? The usual causes would be a blown head gasket or a failed EGR valve, depending on its design. Has the engine overheated recently which would cause the head to warp? Is there any sign of coolant in the oil (mayonnaise on the oil filler cap or droplets on the dipstick) or oil in the coolant header tank?

Does the smoke smell of oil or fuel or coolant? It just does not look like burning oil which is usually grey or black. Presumably a blown off crankcase vent would simply allow crankcase pressure to vent to the atmosphere rather than into the intake where it should be going? I can't see how that would allow oil to be burned.
Another possible cause of white smoke is excess fuel burning due to a failed injector/s which is stuck open, in which case the smoke would probably smell more of fuel than oil.
If it is an injector failure I'm sure that an OBD scan would show it immediately. If the smoke does not clearly smell of fuel then a scan would be the best way to proceed as you do not need to start the engine to read the fault codes.
