Wind Deflector

Wind Deflector
Hi All,
I have just bought a 2003 XKR convertible which has a wind deflector with it, it is the one in the photograph below with arms which fit into the slots in the car body and the horizontal part has tabs which tuck behind the rear seats. Questions are; is this the original one which would have been bought with the car? and how far into the slots should the arms go? when pushed in as far as they will comfortably go there is about half of arm still showing and it looks to me like they should go in further.
I hope that makes sense.

Kevh, Someone may correct me but I believe that all the wind deflectors for the XK8/XKR are "after-market." The convertibles only came with a removable factory cover for the top itself. There are 3 or 4 offerings for wind deflectors, all with unique attachment points; the one I purchased for my 2005 XK8 looks just like yours. I actually had to cut one rear seat tab and spot weld it back together to get the right spacing on one side. The best you can do is adjust the wind deflector to prevent the most wind possible from going down into the back seat (and up your arm and neck...), but it is great in actual use and also helps to hide anything left in the back seat.

Thanks Redline, if your deflector is the same can I ask how much of the arm is visible when inserted, I have a gap of maybe 1.1/2" between the top of the seat and the bottom of the deflector which I don't like, the arms on mine have notches which look like they should possibly click into place but they don't want to go in far enough.

The rear tabs of this Airax wind deflector from Windshott just slide right between the seat and the "armrest" in the back and rest on top of the sidewall; no disassembly required. Only the front is attached via a quick release (requires drilling of a small hole on each side, just behind the seatbelt attachment). Do these pics help?

The wind deflector helps to block air blowing in from behind you, (both around your head and also around the seats, brrrrr), so yes, it's quite effective in lowering turbulence inside the cabin. I won't own a convertible without one. Now, all bets are off if you are wearing a very tall hat or you catch a side wind, but with a side wind you can at least raise the two door windows and get a very comfy cabin again!

The wind deflector transforms the driving experience in a convertible, less draught, less noise, warmer, a much more relaxed and enjoyable drive, get one, you won't be dissapointed.
The frame of mine fits into two slots and the horizontal section tucks behind the seat, I don't know if it is oem or after market, information on these is very sketchy.
