Window switch not working
My wife left top down in a light rain shower. Got back in the car and windows will not work at all. All fuses look good. I happen to have a brand new window switch, so i put that in. nothing still. I pulled positive batt cable and grounded it to reset computers. nothing still...
The driver window, pass window, and power mirrors are all dead.
any ideas?

The driver’s side and passenger side windows and mirrors are controlled by two different control modules “Driver” “Passenger” and both are controlled by different fuse boxes “Drivers & “Passengers” located at the doors. All are fed from the High Power Protection Module located in the trunk next to the battery. If you plan to check it I would recommend disconnecting the battery first. This block fails when the tire in the trunk is loose and bumps the block. Check it for cracks!

I have pulled and inspected every single fuse in the trunk, under hood, driver side fuse panel and Passenger side fuse panel. Nothing is blown
As for the larger fuses in the trunk, are you referring to the one forward of the spare ( has 2 250 amp fuses) both of those look good too.
Thanks for the manual - i will start researching in there.

they feed into the door module and you may have shorted out the module. I just had a XJ8 do this and while Im at home and not looking at a wiring diagram. Thats my first instict off the top of my head, and I think you can swap the door modules to check as I believe theyre the same part. Then you might get some function and verify the repair needed

Yes, I did have problems before with the windows. After much head-scratching there, I took it to the dealer and it turned out to be a faulty window switch. I put a used one in from a salvage yard.
Everything worked as it should for 2 months or so. This time it seemed to be the same symptoms, so I went to Jag and bought a brand new window switch. nothing.
As for modules - the window switches are all dead. Power mirror switch is dead. Even the switch on the passenger door does nothing.
The rear quarter windows will roll up with the top however.
I looked through the wiring diagram and it might as well be written in sanskrit. Can anyone tell me where to test with multimeter to see if i am getting juice to the switch?

I am not in a position to identify what control unit operates the rear windows but I think it is different from the front windows and mirrors. What I thought I saw the last time that the left and right side are operated by two different control units and that is what leads me back to the power source. Not knowing what the dealership did how about checking the relays and fuses related to this problem. Be sure to pull the fuses and test them that way.

here's a dumb question. how do you tell if these fuses are any good? i can just hook up to 12v and test with multimeter?

I pulled and tested all 3 250A fuses. and they were fine. Here is another twist in the saga. the fuse panel on the passenger fascia is NOTHING AT ALL like the fuse map. I thought that a careless previous owner just put in random fuse values, then realized that the empty slots dont even line up with where the map says they should be.
If i turn on the headlights, I have power to the switch, at least evidenced by the lights inside the switch.
Anyone know what pins to check to see if I have power to the window controller?

Need Switch 1999 xj8 plas
My driver side window will also not go down, my sun roof window opens, but closes right away, the only way it will stay open is if you hold the switch down, both of these events happen at the same time. I am gussing a bad connection somewhere, I figure I would start with the "Windoe Control Module" after reviewing all the different posts

Hay Gus
I had the same issue where my driver window would not work and my sunroof window would automatically close any time I opened it, I disconnected the battery and presto..... everything works. Do you know if this will last? does the system just go haywire every now and again?
Thank you
Thank you
