Okay so I have an appointment tomorrow to replace my windshield, $250 installed cash- no insurance. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I called Pilkington directly today and asked about the windshield for my car, they said they have Pilkington and/or "Signa or Secure" glass some brand that starts with an "S" didn't get any more info than that because I didn't have an account with them I then asked who they have as an authorized vendor in Arizona and they gave me 2 phone numbers, I'm sure they would've gave me more if I asked.

I decided to go with Wilbert from DG Auto glass (602)-451-8550, it seemed like he was looking in his computer system and read off a bunch of different available glass options like heated etc, decided on the glass that stated 2002-2006 XK8/XKR rain sensor, non-heated, has like a circle and triangle below the circle, Pilkington premium glass. So still not sure if im getting "OEM" glass but I'm getting glass that is coming from Pilkington-- whatever that really means? Hope that makes sense. Anyways I'll take some pictures! Thanks for everyone's help

Okay heres the final result. Called DG Auto Glass in Arizona 17 May. Scheduled an appointment 18 May at their shop. Would recommend him, got my windshield replaced and the windshield tinted 50% ceramic tint, I would prolly go lighter next time. He used glass supplied by Pilkington, which I believe is the OEM glass. New glass was same exact as the one taken off. Turns out my windshield has been replaced before because it was missing the clips and the gel pad behind the light sensor. Dealership wasn't opened so we decided to install the windshield without the clips. The clips make it easier to replace the windshield. My "light is not on" warning on the dash is now fixed! That was a bonus.

Things I recommend, when I replace my windshield in the future, bring a vacuum to suck up all the dirt and debris that is under the windshield wiper assembly, not necessary but maybe purchasing the clips before hand.

Anyways heres the glass that was used!

don't mind the paint, will do a repaint sooner or later

glass from Pilkington supplier

windshield 50% tint, the rest of my windows are tinted too not sure what percentage

Most states (if not all) it is illegal to fully tint front windshield. I see it done often, but.. One reason is that you cannot make eye contact with a pedestrian or other driver. If nothing else, it give the officer a cause to pull you over. May just be a fix-it ticket to start, but I would definitely go with Clear ceramic next time. It gives nearly the same heat benefit.

One other thing I noticed on my El Camino. When I first got it, it had dark (limo) tint on the windows- side and rear. I got a lot of reflections off the dash, especially at night. Very difficult to see out at night for me. I would look right and see something that I through might be a car I was about to hit, just to realize that it was the reflection of the instrument panel lights. After 2 days, I had the tint removed and replaced with 35%. Something to consider...

I have a 1998 XK8 and need windshield replaced. Looks like the trim is glued down without help from clips. It had been replaced before and Safe Lite said that It couldn't replace it without the trim being damaged. I have the new clips.Trim is a few hundred dollars. What do you think?

You may want to take it to a well-respected auto glass shop in your area and get their advice on what they can and cannot do in this case....

My trim was also glued down without the use of clips (windshield was replaced prior to this time). My installer reused my old trim without clips. He did have a fairly difficult time removing the windshield and trim. He had to use this nylon string/floss contraption.

I recommend getting ceramic window tinting and I would advise against getting limo tint all around as it is very dark, and hard to see out of at night! Definitely you choice though

Ceramic is expensive, my local tint guy did my truck (limo) yes, cant see poo at night, but amazing during this Louisiana heat...
Safelite couldn't do my windshield today, apparently some surrounding shield they didn't have, they'll call me.
