Default Winter Grumpy

As I normally do, I turn grumpy this time of the year. A couple of days ago it was -17C, and today it is around freezing with lots of snow. Why do I live here? Should I move to Spain?
I read posts about ragtops. I have not had my top open since september!
People tell me I can go skiing. Downhill is ok. Speed is fun until you hit a tree or fall over. Cross country? Definately no. Completely silly to put some wooden planks on your feet. It is slippery enough without.
It is said norwegians are born with skis on their feet. That is a lie. Can you imagine what kind of childbirth that would be.
Could somebody please post some pictures or better a video with sound and smell of an open ragtop cruising in a beautiful summer landscape.
Now I am going outside to start my motor, my snowthrower.

There's a certain payback here for your marauding ancestors which is why such a delightful race is kept prisoner in a Hell-Hole.
You make it worse for yourselves with the alcohol laws - is it any wonder the population is driven to drink. The fountains should run akvavit during the six month's dark (at least they wouldn't freeze).
It was 18°C here yesterday with a clear blue sky but a well timed Christmas present of Norovirus (Thank you, Lord) prevented any top down excursions. We won't mention 'smells'.

Thank you Steve for your historic reminder. I have however a hard time understanding why my ancestors went back to this freezing wilderness.
Anyway, as it is dinnertime, I think I will treat myself with a bottle of Linjeaquavit just as a precaution for any stomach upsets.

I planned to take advantage of the 60 degree + (F) weather on Christmas Day for a top-down cruise, but it rained and was only in the 50s.

Someone remind me why we want to move back to the northwest. Oh, yeah, kids & grandkids.

I enjoyed this post.

Cheers from across the pond. And I hear Spain is lovely... and that it's a buyer's market at the moment... look to Catalonia.

Dear Oyster,
Although today was probably the coolest day we've had in the past 10 months, a brisk 60 degrees or so, the sun was shining and I drove around all day with the top down and the wind in my seriously receding hair. Anytime you want to come visit Los Angeles, you're welcome to stop by and tool around in my XKR with the top down. I would venture to say that I had it down approximately 355 days this past year so you probably are assured of topless weather. Have a good winter and how about outdoor ice skating?

Sunny, warm, Florida here.

High today was in the 60's, we wear jackets when it gets that cold. We'll be back in the 70's soon.

Blue skies, white fluffy clouds and 78 degrees on a December day.

That is why I love living in Florida.

We had 48cm of snow two days ago and expect up to 35cm additional tomorrow. It was -15*C overnight.

That's why they invented the word 'winter'.

One possible interpretation, which doesn't fit in with my knowledge of you folk, is that the ones with any common sense rowed away as fast as they could and never came back, accounting for the occasional blond haired beauty that causes me difficulty in controlling the XK even in this predominantly Latin part of the world.

Default Blown Away

Hi all!

My winter grumpiness is totally blown away thanks to all the amusing answers I got to my silly thread. Today we also had a beautiful sunny day with only a couple of degrees below freezing. I was going to take a picture, but the sun had gone below the horizon. ( 15:16 ) But, as I saw in the local paper, the day is a tremedous 3 minutes longer than at winter solstice, so the long sunny and warm evenings are not far away.

Steve: Despite missing empirical evidence for your historic theory, I tend to agree with you. Watching norwegians drive make me think most of the smart guys have left the country.

Tberg: Thanks for your generous offer. What you did not know is that I used to work for an airline and still have access to cheap tickets. Watch out for a stranger on your doorstep asking for your car keys.

Mikey: The best comfort anybody can get is to hear somebody having same or worse conditions. None of the others have our summer evenings.

Thanks to all of you. A trip to Norway in SUMMERTIME is highly recommended.
Happy New Year
