I always loved the look of the Appliance wire wheels on my beloved 1974 Datsun 260Z. But I despised the requisite cleaning. To do a thorough job, it took longer to clean the wheels than it did to wash the entire car. Plus, many rags and toothbrushes were involved. And I was only 21 years old with all-day energy and stamina at the time. But I still hated all the time I had to spend on my knees or just sitting on the pavement to keep those wheels looking sharp....

I vowed to never again have a set of wire wheels when I finally sold that car in 1987. I have kept that promise....

Old thread I know but I was searching. Wire would look better if the rears where offset. Taller and wider. But I love my apollos.

An old but interesting thread. I've owned a number of Brit cars with wire wheels. I didn't have problems keeping them clean. They DO need to be kept in tune (spokes tightened properly as needed) but I also like the look. I think the red convert. posted earlier in this thread really speaks to the E-Type heritage of the XK8.
Damn the practicality!

I absolutely agree with the tie in to the E-Type and I think that is the reason I'm putting Daytons on the car. Fewer spokes and more offset would be ideal but the Italian wheels are the only source for that and at over $2000. per wheel its completely out of the question !

I just picked up an X300 XJ6 with Wire Wheels on it. I was surprised to see them when I found the car. As you used to see them on the older models even in the 80's they were more common than x300 -x 308.I just joined the forum. Have a Blessed day

But I tell you what. I think that looks pretty dang good. So what if they aren't practical, are high maintenance and prone to break down? They will just remind me of my ex wife. Besides, why should the wheels be any different than the rest of the car?
I must say they look pretty cool. I was skeptical at first but this image looks good. Like to see them on an X100 though.
