Default Won't start

Hi everyone,

I have a 2002 X100 that I haven't started in a while. The car is turning over but won't start and I believe its the immobilizer.
  • The remote locking isn't working. I have replaced the battery but has made no difference.
  • I have tried to reprogramme the key but the red light by the gear stick does not blink.
  • Only the door that I insert the key into will lock (central locking seems to be out)
Has anyone experienced something like this before or could point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

If it's the immo I'd expect a code saying so and possibly also a PATS flash code. (But I'm not 100% sure you have PATS at that era car - someone hopefully will say.)

Dlaregztif,

I would attack the power issue first. You say car has been sitting for a while. So you switched out the car battery. Is it still running a strong 12.7V or more? Does the starter crank strong?

Central locking isn’t working which is a clue. Do you have a black key (not the green valet key)?

Try this - Hold the key in the on position (don’t start) and wait until car has gone through the start up checks. Then off. And then try to start.

Lots of other possible problems before you start checking for spark and/or the KTM module. Fuel pumps going out after standing for a while is common.

I had a look but can't seem to find any info. Seems to be in the 2003 model though.
I'm not getting any red light on the J gate either so might not be the immob

Cranks as normal, full charge on the battery.
Using the black key, I don't have the green one. I've been starting like that, waiting for the lights to go out before starting and it just won't start.

I'll check the fuel pump in the morning.

Do you have fuel pressure with the ignition on? If yes, try shifting to neutral and see if it starts. It could also be bore wash.
