Would like some thoughts on worth of a 2000XKR
I would be buying this as a project to didle with on my off time,
I have shop and can work on my own stuff,,however this particular car doesnt run,
It is a 2000XKR convertible, has 80000 miles and owner hasnt driven it in 6 years, top doesnt work either,
he is asking 5500US , There are a few running XKRs for same price that are running in my area
but they all have 150000 miles or more. SO my question to you all is this car worth $3500(what im thinking of offering)
in parts in case the drivetrain is completly shot? By milage Im thinking he broke te timing chains and
thats why he doesnt want to start it.
Just want to know I can recoup my money even if its a big dud.
The pictures are from when car was still running which was over 6 years ago so Im sure it doesnt look this good any longer.

PS: A car not started in 6 years will likely have major fuel system problems with gummed-up injectors, pump, regulators, etc.

thanks,yes I figure every line (fuel,hydraulic,brake,etc) will have to be removed and cleaned out.,
My main thought is there enough parts I can sell to recoup my $3500 if it turns out to be a lost cause?
I know what the cars sell for from looking over last few months but not so much the parts.

I would want to know exactly why the car has not run in six years. If the engine is indeed trashed, you are looking at some very high-dollar replacement costs. How much maintenance and repair history can the current owner show you? Having access to all service records is extremely valuable in cases like this....

Im going on the assumption engne is thrashed.Even if its not I would be pulling it anyways
to go thru it,do timing chains and clean everything out.
Again my question : IS there 3500 in parts I can sell if the engine and running gear are thrashed.
Meaning can I sell the body parts and whatever else is salvagable and recoup my $3500..

If not $3500, I'd imagine it'd be pretty close. Comes down to how much time you want to spend disassembling, sending things out, waiting for people to bite etc. Random rare parts would be worth quite a bit on top of the usual body/interior bits.
For precisely the same reason, even if the drivetrain isn't toast, this would still be an expensive endeavor.

I part out cars pretty reguarly,, this year a Explorer that guys son blew the motor,last year a Lincoln Mk8 the guy wrapped around telephone pole,,also part out boats,,Im a contractor so I supplement my income when I have no work, Id like to fix it but if its too far gone
then Ill part it out. I may just park it in my shop and wait till I find a good parts car for it.. I have some knowledge on what I can get off parts for American cars but not so much the Jag.
Guy might not take my offer so there is that as well

That guy should take that offer. $5500 for an example that doesn't start is too high.
But, yeah, you could get solid money parting it out. It might take a while for people to bite, but there are definitely some stupidly expensive pieces on these cars. On my car, I had to have the crankshaft pulley replaced. That part, new, is like $1800. I got it a refurbed one for like $400. Stupid.
Wheels will be worth a good amount. Double-fives are nice.
If the undertray is intact, that's also a rare and expensive part.
Wood trim is hard to come by, so if that's in good shape, it'll fetch a good amount.
Body will get you a good chunk of the way.

Body condition
Body condition looks outstanding and it has suspiciously perfect paintwork for a 19 year old car, as far as I can see from the pictures. This could be a significant plus point, but it could also suggest some dodgy dealing. I would want to check this out very carefully, in case some paint has been blown over a rustbox, which might also hide other mechanical problems, causing an unsuspecting buyer to be wooed by the (possibly very temporary!) beauty of the car. And I would like to know where the car has been kept, as some of those pictures appear to have been taken on public roads, in which case, how did the Jaguar get there?
Maybe the car has not been run for 6 years, for legitimate reasons, or maybe it is full of unknown gremlins, which might both increase the cost of putting this right, and reduce its value for parts. I would be extra cautious on this one.
150,000 well maintained miles would be more attractive to me than 80,000 miles and 6 years fallow. During the well maintained miles, many component which wear and other components which deteriorate with age (whether or not used) are likely to have been replaced, and a good service history would encourage me to go for that higher mileage car.

and easy to shove in small spaces.. I love the LSx but in the older Jags size is a considration

Do a search for LS1 Jaguar Specialties and that should get you lots of reading.
I must admit that Whitehat is correct, if the engine is just a head job for a couple of bent valves, worth the effort to go in and fix it.
The top could be matter of hoses, which is not that bad a job to someone like yourself.
Just thought I would let you know, these are beautiful cars and hate to see one broken up in that, what looks like good condition.
Keep us up to date and ask for any help, some one has done it all.
