Dear god! No wonder diesels and 4-pots are so common in Britain.

If you would, I would love to learn abit more about your Homeland.....and you know, I would be more than Happy to return to you any knowledge of Texas that you would like to know about.....!!!

Actually, the Black isn't so hard to keep clean! About once a week, Missy runs it through the Car Wash, I keep it in the Garage at night and during the day it sets under a Car-Port at the Office. I do the polishing each Spring and Fall and that's about it....Of all wonders, I get to drive it 365 Days a Year, as the weather here seldom gets down to Freezing....We are currently having one of those Winters this year... the first Snow we've had since 2017! I'm going to use the new Ceramic stuff to Polish it with this Spring and I will report the outcome to you with Photos! The biggest Problem I've had with the weather has been my Headliner.....It fell down about 5 years ago and I had it replaced with Alcantara. Thought it would be OK for years to come....but it fell down on the Driver's side again last Month.....Guess I will just try again, as I don't know the secret to that....I guess the point is that I love the Car, Headliner or not! So there!!!

Hey Billy,
5 years was how long my first replacement lasted. Originally done in 2012, I started wearing it as a hat in 2017. I'm really hoping that this time it will last longer as the work invoice made my eyes water. I forgot to ask 'how much?'

Possibly for you it's the combination of the (normal) Texas heat and the car colour. From what I've seen in the news, heat won't have been too much of a problem recently...

Will be watching about the ceramic coatings as crbass' recent pics have got me interested.

P.S. I'll send a quick PM re Jersey so I don't pull the thread OT

Take care.

I’ve looked at most all the DIY products and tried 2. The Last Coat which was excellent but only lasted about two months and then tried Turtle Wax’s new product Ceramic Hybrid Solutions and three months in it is still doing its job And the paint still has a glorious shine.

When I'm on the phone with coworkers in England, it is interesting to hear fuel prices. What would be the rate of diesel over there per litre?

My little VW with a tune and me being careful gets 35-40 miles per US gallon of diesel at $3.09 (today, but its been 2.30-3.20 the last year). So my math shows that's $0.82 per litre and 2 and 2.4 cents per mile or 1.24-1.49 center per kilometer. Basically my XKR gets half the mileage and fuel costs about the same for premium, so double the price per kilometer. We pay less for fuel but its not like we don't end up paying a bunch in tax anyway, we just get garbage services a lot compared to you guys.

dfbender,

I have heard good things about T-Wax but have never tried it on the Black.....I think from what I have seen that the Ceramic stuff works much better if the base is prepared well.....That makes sense but how much better I don't know.....If you know of someone or if someone reading this has personal experience with T/Wax I would really like to hear from you!

Billy, I have found the T-Wax Ceramic Vet easy to apply (1 section/panel as a time). Also, they have a Ceramic version just for black finishes which is awesome. You guys seem to get special treatment. 😀

dfbender,
You are correct Sir, T-Wax has a special Ceramic Polish for BLACK Cars! I will be looking into that Ceramic Coating with hopes that it will improve the way Black stands out.........I found it and it is just for Black Cars and is Ceramic that lasts up to 6 Months.....I'm sure someone on the Forum has used it and can give us details of how they applied it and something (maybe a Photo of how it turned out)!

Just take it to a detailer and have them apply Ceramic Pro ceramic coating. Or, if you want to do it yourself, you can use Avalon King's Armor Shield IX ceramic coat. Either option will be a multi-day effort in which the car is claybar'd, compounded, polished, and then given an alcohol wipe down before applying the ceramic coat. The result however is superior water beading, UV protection, and shine from your car. As a bonus, paint-defects will have been corrected.

If you have some more cash burning a hole in your pocket, you can even have them install a paint protection film before applying the ceramic coat and then you get the best of both worlds.

A bit of a leap from a $10 spray

Oh is that what they were on about? I hadn't realized ceramic coatings can now be sprayed on...

Just kidding. I am just skeptical on the quality of spray ceramic waxes when my experience with a proper ceramic coat on my Jeep has been perfection. I haven't done the Jag because the clearcoat is peeling off in various areas. I am saving up for new paint.

I assume ceramic cannot be applied over peeled off clear coat. My roof and deck lid (boot to you brits) are both in bad shape. Looking for a way to avoid repainting the car as the rest is excellent....

Have to agree that the professionally applied ceramic coatings are the way to go. They ain’t cheap, but worth it IMO.

I had the XKR done with GTechnique Crystal Serum and almost decade on it is just now getting to where I need to have it done again. The car admittedly lives a sheltered life, but I think having a car detailed every 8 or 9 years is pretty good. I have NEVER waxed it since, only washed with good quality clean tools and rinsed with DI water.

I have another car coated more recently with KENZO Ecocoat and am less thrilled with it. It looks great but 9 months in I am stating to see some swirls and marks and have concluded that it is a lot less durable than the Crystal Serum.

Sorry but I thought we were talking about Turtle Wax Products not Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light High Quality Deep Gloss Ceramic Coating - @ $65.00 a Bottle......this stuff is for Professionals, not us old Texas Boys......I need to do my Car @ least once every 2 years so that it will remember who I am....besides....It would take an ole Texas Boy a couple years to gather up enough MONEY for a Pro Job! Maybe someday I will be able to afford all those fancy things!

I bit the bullet when I bought the car 2 years ago and took it to get professionally done. It cost me a little over $400 Canadian ( about $1.69 US ) but it sure looks great. The Jag only sees the sun half the year and is parked in the garage for the winter so I'll see how long it lasts before I have to get it done again. I use the Turtle wax on my 1980 Trans-Am every 2 years or so and the paint look like new but she rarely sees the sun now a days.

Hi Boss,

The rims are 20 inch Avarus A2s and I'm running Kuhmo Ecsta SPT 255 35ZR 20s front and back. The rims came with the car and the tires set me back about $300 a piece. It's the only XK8 in town and the rims with the Mina exhaust system I got installed really makes the car look sharp.
