Hi reed
The rear trunk trim is not correct... its a 2000/2005 and not for XKR but XK8.
It seems that the car has been a bit modified (look?, repair?)
The correct one for your car should be body color without Jaguar inscription and no opening button.
If your car is not supercharged, it should not have rear spoiler.
I think that the trunk button is not functional?
Cheers

Thanks to everyone on this forum I am learning that I have a very modified vehicle. Several things appear to have been changed to make this beauty look like it does and that certainly doesn't bother me. I appreciate learning about this Jaguar.
A question I do have is this. Did they even produce a supercharge engine in 79? and wouldn't the engine say "supercharged" if it was. It does not and therefore I am presuming the Grill, The spoiler and trunk lid, The front hood and wheels are all modifications as everyone is suggesting. Again....thanks for teaching me about this vehicle.

another detail to spot supercharged version:
on the tachometer it is mentioned: supercharged. This could give an idea if it was originally fitted...
regards
Pascal
Ps: CATS suspensions should be fitted also. You can see them with the wiring on top of them in engine bay.

Cheers for the heads up on the water pump Philhef.
This time I did some research before choosing the model, and I heard about water pump impeller and also cam chain tensioners
I thought it may have been sorted out by 2002 but I just noticed my car was built sept 2001 so Ill have to keep an eye on it, how difficult is it to change water pump?
Havent recieved the service records yet so dont know whats been done
Its one of the best shape jags ive seen for the money and BRG to top it off I had to have it.
Yes agree about the X-type when it was working it was great, 4 cyl diesel turbo was very economical, however in the 3 months I owned it it spent all but 2 weeks in the shop at the jag specialists, it kept shutting down dead as a dorrnail
they change bothe fuel pumps fuel tank, all fuel lines and much more , then they finally said its fixed but by this time I was nervous driving it waiting for next breakdown so traded it in losing $5000, however next week car yard said it stopped and they cant fix it, so got rid of it in time.
Didnt know it was a ford engine at the time.

Not had any water pump problems (knock wood) my issues were with hoses and the thermostat housing plastic cracking. Oh, and the resorivoir tank cracking. Two worse hoses to fix were the octopus hose and the valley hose! argh!

This is what the supercharger looks like under the bonnet... easy to spot.

Well I bit the bullet and purchased a 2002 XK8 coupein british racing green
Photos to follow
Bought it unseen except for photos and a video from Old Timers .com in Sydney
A few cosmetic problems on arrival, someone tried to remove a dent from inside aft of fuel cap and it looks terrible, negotiating a deal with Oldtimers to repair, and the grill under the drivers side wipers is broken so a new facia required
Drove really well on way home (about an hour) couldnt find the engine no for an hour or so then finally found it but rego dept wouldnt proceed as they couldnt find compliance plate, finally found it in boot thanks to the Forum, rego no is CATXK8
will take some photos this weekend and post them up.
